CouesWhitetail.com Member Spotlight - Christian Wolff

Editor's note: I have had the pleasure of knowing Christian for several years now.  I have spent some time hunting with him and he is a talented glasser and pleasure to be around. He has helped on so many hunts for other members of the forum, it's truly amazing. He is actively involved in the Arizona Elk Society and the Arizona Deer Association. I wish we had more sportsmen with his dedication to wildlife conservation groups!

1. What is your name? How about your user name in the forum and how did you choose it?

My name is Christian Wolff.  I originally started on the forum as young hunter and I chose that name since I joined the forum right after my 15th birthday.  I then changed my name on the forum to azcouesandelk.  I chose that because I love hunting both coues deer and elk and Arizona is my favorite place to hunt.

2. What is your favorite part of CouesWhitetail.com (the forum, photogallery, recipes, hunt
strategies section, biology section, etc.)?

For me the forum is probably my favorite.  I check it on a regular basis and there are always detailed threads and hearty debates.  The photo gallery is also up there, nothing like going through 150 pages of coues buck pics to get you ready for an upcoming hunt.

3. How did you first hear about CouesWhitetail.com? How long have you been a member?

When I was 14 I found I had drawn my first coues tag and had no idea where to begin so I was searching for hunt tactics and what to look for and www.coueswhitetail.com came up and then I found the forum and have been visiting on a regular basis.

4. How often do you visit the site? How much time do you spent each visit and what do you
do on the site?

I visit the site on a daily basis when I am in town.  When I visit the site I try to read most of the new topics, but there are always to many because of all the members!

5. Have you met any other members of the site? Who are they and have you become friends with them and perhaps gone hunting with them?

I have met a lot of members of the forum!  The list is way to long to type all the members I have been able to meet.  I can honestly say that several of my best friends I met from the forum.  It seems like most of the hunts I go on anymore are with forum members, and it always is a blast!

Have you introduced some of your friends to CouesWhitetail.com? Have you attended any of the CouesWhitetail.com Gettogethers?

I have introduced quite a few people to site over the years.I normally attend the ADA banquet, but sadly I have not made it to any of the get togethers, but hope to make it to some in the near future.

6. How long have you been hunting Coues deer? Describe your favorite Coues Deer hunting
memory.

I have been hunting coues deer for 6 years now.  My favorite coues deer hunting experience is probably the hunt my dad and I shared in 2008.  We hunted extremely hard and were both able to harvest great bucks, the harvest was not near as important to us as being able to spend the time in the field together.  Also the fact that Tyler (elkhunter on forum) was able to be there the entire hunt.

7. Do you archery hunt Coues or rifle hunt or both? Tell us about the equipment you use.

I have been rifle hunting coues for 6 years and have been chasing them with a bow for the last 3 (haven’t gotten one with a bow yet).

Rifle: Remington 700 chambered in .280 with  4.5-14x50 Leupold VX-III (soon to have a Kenton turret put on).  Also in the beginning stages of building a custom rifle.
Bow: Hoyt Alphamax 32 with Spott-hogg Hogg-it Hunter SDP .010 pins, QAD Ultrarest and 11 inch Doinker stabilizer
Optics: 15x56 Swarovski, 20-60x80 HD Swarovski, 8x42 Leupold Cascades, Leupold RX 1000 rangefinder
Backpack: My main pack is my Eberlestock J104 and I also have an Eberlestock X1
Boots: I used to always wear Redwings, but this past season I have worn Danner Frontiers and I am nothing but pleased with them!

8. What other species do you enjoy hunting and where do you hunt them?

Besides coues I really enjoy chasing elk and javelina around!  It is a great feeling to have a big bull bugling in your face, or glassing up a 400 type bull across a canyon or flat.  I absolutely love chasing javelina with my bow in January!  I normally say I am deer hunting and if I see pigs I might go after them, but there is something about them that makes me always chase them all over!

9. Now tell us some more about yourself. Where do you live? What type of work do you do (feel free to mention your business so other members can help support it)? Tell us about your family.

I live in Scottsdale, AZ.  Right now I am finishing up school (I plan on becoming a firefighter in the near future). As for right now I am working at Bass Pro Shops in the archery, hunting, optics and cutlery departments.  Feel free to swing by and talk anytime!

I have to say I am truly blessed with a great family!  They support everything I do and I get to spend a lot of time with them whether it be camping, hunting, fishing or even sitting around the house.  My dad got me started into hunting at a very young age and we are best hunting buddies.  My mom has always enjoyed bird hunting and camping and this past year the family all pitched in and got her a bow and she is loving it and is even talking about applying for an archery cow elk tag this next year.  My sister this past year got married and moved to Nebraska, but she also has always enjoyed hunting and her new husband is now getting into hunting thanks to us!

10. Is there something we forgot to ask?

I am very involved with volunteer work with the Arizona Elk Society (www.arizonaelksociety.org) and am now getting involved with the Arizona Deer Association (www.azdeer.org).  I am very passionate about getting kids involved with the outdoors because if we don’t hunting may not be a lasting sport

What’s your favorite hunting quote?

Not really a hunting quote but it is by a great man, Theodore Roosevelt
“A vote is like a rifle; its usefulness depends upon the character of the user.”

Favorite hunting book?

I have not read enough hunting books to really have a favorite, but the one I have reread the most is “How To Hunt Coues Deer” by Tony Mandille and Duane Adams

Other outdoor activities you enjoy?

I am an avid fly fisherman!  I try to make at least 1 big trip with my dad every year out of state. I also golf on occasion!
