Back to main Forum Member Spotlight page

Editor's note: I met James at a "mini" CouesWhitetail.com get-together at BassPro recently.  He is a fairly recent member of CouesWhitetail.com but has already met several members and recruited several others!  Thanks James!

CouesWhitetail.com Member Spotlight - James Thompson

  1. What is your name?  How about your user name in the forum and how did you choose it?

My name is James W. Thompson III. My user name is bowhuntaz1. I chose it, because I have a passion for bow hunting, and I love hunting Arizona

  1. What is your favorite part of CouesWhitetail.com (the forum, photo gallery, recipes, hunt strategies section, biology section, etc.)?

I love looking at everyone’s Posts and pictures. I like reading about everyone’s hunting stories. I learn a lot from them. The hard part is listening to what everyone is not saying…

  1. How did you first hear about CouesWhitetail.com?  How long have you been a member?

I heard about this cornucopia of hunting knowledge from another hunting site that I was a member of. It had a thread with a story on CWT.com. I read the story and checked this place out and never went back to the other site. I have been a member of CWT.com for 10 months now.

  1. How often do you visit the site?  How much time do you spent each visit and what do you do on the site?

I’m on this site 3-4 times a day. I always read the new posts, and then go through the archives.

  1. Have you met any other members of the site?  Who are they and have you become friends with them and perhaps gone hunting with them?   Have you introduced some of your friends to CouesWhitetail.com?  Have you attended any of the CouesWhitetail.com Get-togethers?

I have met some members and am looking forward to meeting many more. I have met Ernesto C. Coues N Sheep. Joeybari. Willhunt4coues. And a few others…I have gone hunting with Ernesto C. when I lived in Yuma. He took me predator hunting for the first time, and I will never forget it. We were on a ridge calling down, when he starts, not yelling but SCREAMING my name. I turn around to see him beating a fox with his gun. The fox was attacking his foot. It came from downwind and was after what he (the fox) thought was a rabbit. Needless to say, the fox (which had almost no teeth left due to very old age) is in a better place.

I have introduced about 20 people to this site. I am looking forward to my first get-together.

  1. How long have you been hunting Coues deer?  Describe your favorite Coues Deer hunting memory.

I have been chasing the Grey Ghost for about 4 years now. I have been lucky and was able to harvest one on year 2. I am looking forward to putting my arrow through one ghost that I have been watching for 3 years now.

  1. Do you archery hunt Coues or rifle hunt or both?  Tell us about the equipment you use.

As my screen name suggest, I love to hunt with archery equipment. I shoot a Matthews LX, with a true glow site, whisker biscuit (which I might switch to a drop-a-way) with carbon Express arrows tipped with either Rage 2-blades or 4-blade slick-Trick. I am scared to shoot any of the new bows that are out there because I might like them, and decide to take one home…

8.  What other species do you enjoy hunting and where do you hunt them?

I have been chasing bears for about 8 years now. I have yet to put an arrow through one. My time is around the corner. I pretty much hunt everything but buffalo and sheep. I just don’t have that kind of money lying around.

  1. Now tell us some more about yourself.   Where do you live?  What type of work do you do (feel free to mention your business so other members can help support it)?   Tell us about your family.

I live in Mesa with my loving and patient (while out hunting) wife and our daughter and a 2nd daughter on the way. I work for Maricopa County Animal Control. I work at the shelter in Mesa. My wife works for Brock, Craig, and Thacker Architects in Mesa. If you need to remodel you home or office let me know…

  1.  Is there something we forgot to ask?  What’s your favorite hunting quote?  Favorite hunting book?  Other outdoor activities you enjoy?

My favorite hunting quote is one I made up my self, or at least I have never heard anyone else say it. “Hunt hard eat well”.

My favorite book is, A Hunt for Justice by Lucinda Delaney Schroeder.

I also enjoy fishing, hiking, and watching movies with my wife.
