Jeremy and his family

Editor's note: Jeremy has been a member of the site for several years, but I only recently met him on the way through Payson.  He is a young guy with a BIG family - six kids!  Soon he will be opening a meat processing store in Payson....so make sure you guys give him your business!

CouesWhitetail.com Member Spotlight - Jeremy Browning

  1. What is your name?  How about your user name in the forum and how did you choose it?

My name is Jeremy Browning…and it took forever for me to come up with my user name - jeremyb.

  1. What is your favorite part of CouesWhitetail.com (the forum, photogallery, recipes, hunt strategies section, biology section, etc.)?

I love the forum and hearing everyone’s story and seeing the pictures. I enjoy reading certain peoples opinions such as .270, Coues‘n’Sheep and Mr. Quimby.

  1. How did you first hear about CouesWhitetail.com?  How long have you been a member?

I first heard about the website years and years ago. I lurked around reading stories and talked my dad into posting his story of his 2003 big buck. http://www.coueswhitetail.com/hunt_stories/John%20Browning.htm

I officially became a member back in 2007 so I could post my 2 cents in a certain thread.

  1. How often do you visit the site?  How much time do you spent each visit and what do you do on the site?

Okay….so I visit the regularly, regularly meaning DAILY!!! Well during the week anyway. It’s the first thing I log into when I get to work and it stays up from 7-4 Monday thru Friday. Do I have a problem? Maybe….hahahaha!!

  1. Have you met any other members of the site?  Who are they and have you become friends with them and perhaps gone hunting with them?   Have you introduced some of your friends to CouesWhitetail.com?  Have you attended any of the CouesWhitetail.com Get-togethers?

I’ve met CouesWhitetail, GameHauler, Pwrguy, Coues’n’Sheep, Extreme Coues, Willhunt4coues, Payson Outfitters, Skeeter, Clymths, Crbn4runner, Kwikee Quiver, Antlers, The Coues and many many more. A few members are customers of mine here at the workplace,  others I have gone to school with and only a couple I hunt with.  I have introduced many people to CW.com in the past years though some are still lurkers…Unfortunately I have not been able to make it to a get-together yet. Something always comes up during that time, so hopefully next year.

  1. How long have you been hunting Coues deer?  Describe your favorite Coues Deer hunting memory.

I’ve have tagged along with my dad for many years and watched and learned many tactics that I started putting into use back in 1996 when I first started hunting these awesome animals. I shot my first buck with my .243 @ 380yds here in Unit 22.

I got up on Friday morning thinking I would head out for a bit before I had to be at school for finals. I saw some does while glassing for a few hours and started heading back to town when I spotted a buck on a ridge chasing the girls.  I pulled over and started to close the gap between us. I set up for the shot and wham! Got him….now what? I was all by myself, never dressed an animal in my life…no water, no pack, it’s all in the truck and all I have is a little 2” Gerber knife in my pocket and that made it interesting.  I look back at the truck and it looks like an ant. How far did I walk and not realize?? I threw my rifle over one shoulder and the 75lb. deer over the other. I have an hour before I have to get to school, I can do this. 2 ½ hours and 3 ridges later I make it to the truck with my, what seems now, 250lb. deer and its all I can do to get it in the back of my truck. I head in to town overwhelmed with excitement about my first deer. I run  into the school and thankfully my coach was also the Dean and excused me and signed off on my finals!! I won’t ever forget that hunt…or my pack in the truck!

  1. Do you archery hunt Coues or rifle hunt or both?  Tell us about the equipment you use.

I have hunted and taken many coues with both. If I by chance pull a tag I’ll use my Ruger .243 M77. That has to my favorite rifle, shot all my deer with this. That is until I get my .270WSM set up.

I now spend more time and money as the wife would say on archery hunting. I’ve been a lucky one and have taken 3 coues and 1 muley with my bow in the past 6 years.  My bow of choice is the Jennings G2SL, its super fast, super quiet and super accurate. I shoot Gold Tip arrows with a 100gr. Muzzy 3 blade and prolly won’t ever change.

8.  What other species do you enjoy hunting and where do you hunt them?

I love hunting elk and antelope. I usually put in for elk here in 22 just because its close to home and I can’t stand being away from my 3 year old for too long. I put in for antelope in 2A and 3A, I love those two units and used to live there.

I also enjoy quail and duck hunting. I hit spots between Payson and Roosevelt Lake for the birds.

  1. Now tell us some more about yourself.   Where do you live?  What type of work do you do (feel free to mention your business so other members can help support it)?   Tell us about your family.

Well I grew up in Holbrook and moved to Payson in 94. I work for HD Supply as an inside salesman and been here for 11 years. I love hunting, fishing, hiking, the Red Sox and Cubs.

I have a beautiful wife to be, Kari and six wonderful kids, Marissa, Justin, Ona, Cutter, Wyatt and Seth. Marissa will be a junior this year and is a killer big sister and she loves to fish. Justin will be a freshman who loves to skate, hike, fish, throw rocks and break windows…hahahaha!! Ona is my little 12year old cowgirl. She rides and ropes and this year she took runner-up in queening. Cutter who is 10 is the ball player, baseball and soccer are his favorites and he loves watching la crosse. He hikes, hunts and fishes whenever he can. Wyatt is the 3 year old human tornado destroying everything in his path from his playroom to the front door. He loves his toys and his Wii and loves catching crawdads! Seth is my 1 year old drool bucket, slobbering on anything he can get his hands on or in his mouth. He started walking a couple of months ago and I am sooo glad he is the last one!!

  1.  Is there something we forgot to ask?  What’s your favorite hunting quote?  Favorite hunting book?  Other outdoor activities you enjoy?

My most favorite hobby or activity is cutting meat. I absolutely love it and it’s almost like therapy for me. Started 10 years ago and this year I’ll have my very own shop here in Payson come mid August. So all you successful hunters be sure to stop by!
