CouesWhitetail.com Member Spotlight questions - Keith Idso

  1. What is your name?  How about your user name in the forum and how did you choose it?

My name is Keith Idso.  My username is kidso, because I am a kid at heart.  Not really.  Well, maybe I am a kid at heart, but I chose the name simply because “K” is for Keith and Idso is my last name.  Thus, I hooked the two parts together, which is easy enough for me to remember!

  1. What is your favorite part of CouesWhitetail.com (the forum, photogallery, recipes, hunt strategies section, biology section, etc.)?

My favorite part of CouesWhitetail.com is the forum.  In particular, I love the Black Bear, Mountain Lion, and Trail Cameras sections.

  1. How did you first hear about CouesWhitetail.com?  How long have you been a member?

I first heard about CouesWhitetail.com while bear hunting with a friend earlier this spring.  I joined the community in mid-June of 2010, so I have only been a member for about one trimester.

  1. How often do you visit the site?  How much time do you spent each visit and what do you do on the site?

I tend to visit CouesWhitetail.com at least twice a day during the week; once before heading out to work and once before heading into bed.  I stay logged in long enough to peruse my three favorite forum topics (Black Bear, Mountain Lion, and Trail Cameras) and review any of their new posts.

  1. Have you met any other members of the site?  Who are they and have you become friends with them and perhaps gone hunting with them?   Have you introduced some of your friends to CouesWhitetail.com?  Have you attended any of the CouesWhitetail.com Get-togethers?

I have not yet hunted with anyone whom I met on CouesWhitetail.com, but I did run into a couple of southern Arizona members who came up to the Bear Calling Seminar sponsored by the Arizona Predator Callers in early September.  I do hunt with one or two other guys occasionally, but they are not too comfortable with computers, thus I have not introduced them to the website.  However, some of members I have met on-line seem to be very decent and like-minded hunting individuals with whom I wouldn’t mind sharing an adventure or two with out in the hills!

  1. How long have you been hunting Coues deer?  Describe your favorite Coues Deer hunting memory.

Sadly, and to my lack of species diversity, I have never hunted for deer in my life, let alone Coues Deer.  I have enough fun chasing bears while blowing on a predator call!  My favorite hunt, however, was my recent archery black bear hunt, which is posted on the webpage.

  1. Do you archery hunt Coues or rifle hunt or both?  Tell us about the equipment you use.

Again, I have not deer hunted at all, but I have harvested Arizona black bear and mountain lion with a 30.-06 and a .300 Winchester Magnum.  I have also taken cow elk with the .300.  In addition, I recently took my first bear with a PSE bow, and generally harvest an archery only javelina each year.

8.  What other species do you enjoy hunting and where do you hunt them?

I enjoy hunting Arizona black bears while predator calling with hand calls and the mountain lions that incidentally come in while calling for bear.  I also enjoy hunting for archery javelina on each New Year’s Day opening morning.

  1. Now tell us some more about yourself.   Where do you live?  What type of work do you do (feel free to mention your business so other members can help support it)?   Tell us about your family

I live in Chandler, Arizona, and teach 5th grade at a local elementary school.  My wife and I were married in the Snowflake Arizona Temple six years ago and have twin girls arriving in mid-November.  I also have an 18 year old daughter from a previous marriage who is a licensed cosmetologist and is studying criminal justice in college.

Aside from my passion for family activities and hunting, I am an avid Christmas conessouer who decorates our home each year with literally hundreds of vintage Christmas decorations from the 60’s and 70’s.  Come by in December over any weekend and enjoy the holiday spirit by taking in the nostalgic decor while sipping away at some hot chocolate or roasting marshmallows over a welcoming fire!

  1.  Is there something we forgot to ask?  What’s your favorite hunting quote?  Favorite hunting book?  Other outdoor activities you enjoy?

I really haven’t read any hunting books, but I do have a few favorite quotes that I wouldn’t mind sharing.  The first, is by Sir Edmund Burke: “All that is necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing.”  The second, is by President George Washington: “Happiness and moral duty are inseparably connected.”  The last, is by President Abraham Lincoln: “America will never be destroyed from the outside.  If we falter and lose our freedoms, it will be because we destroyed ourselves.”
