  1. Well last week after the 60 day drying period my December buck officially scored 200 0/8" gross 197 4/8" net. Couple inches smaller than originally scored due to some initial mismeasurements on my part and probably a very tiny bit of that being shrinkage. Either way I'm more than happy to have a 200 inch Archery buck on an OTC tag from an area that from my knowledge has never produced a buck like this. With the score of 197 4/8" net it should make him number 5 all time in az and 16 all time pope and young in the current books and will probably drop down to 18-19 pope and young after this next book comes out.
  2. Had a heck of a hunt yesterday and killed my first bear! And he's HUGE! This bear has been chased many times in the past and he's so big he just doesn't care the dogs are even there as you can see from the video. He's killed and hurt a few other dogs as well. Somewhat long story short this big guy took the dogs 15 or so miles through some of the nastiest canyons out there, it was super hot, but the dogs never gave up. We first got him in a big canyon sitting down so we waited to see if he'd tree and he never would so we decided to try and sneak in and shoot him. It was so thick I wasn't able to get a shot with my bow so ended up going into thick brush with a .44 mag pistol. He was 15 feet from me but it was so thick I didn't have a shot. He smelled me and busted out of there and didn't stop for 2 miles. He finally got tired again and sat down. Hiked out of the canyon back to the truck found some roads that got us close and hiked down into an even bigger canyon. When we finally got to him he had sat down in a big thicket not giving me a shot with the bow once again. He started getting a little worked up growling and acting like he wanted to get some dogs so we moved quick and once again had to crawl in to get a shot with a pistol. Ended up taking him from about 10 yards with one shot to the head to make sure he didn't charge us or start getting dogs. And that was that. He's one of the biggest bears Hunter has caught with the dogs and a quick measurement nose to tail was 7'4" estimated 400 pounds right now which would put him 450+ in November. Don't know the skull measurements but should be Boone and Crockett for sure. Didn't end up killing him til 3 pm and had several hours of packing in and out of a huge canyon so didn't make it back to the truck til after dark. Toughest packout I've ever done. But at the end of the day was all worth it! Love the coloring and the size of this guy. Thanks again Hunter DeWitt! Feed your dogs some tbones tonight for the work they did didn't get the best field pics because we couldn't move him and we had to hurry and get him out. Had a friend edit some of the pics to get rid of some blood. Added some video. Let me know if they work. https://youtu.be/hilFDoJ9HO4 https://youtu.be/7Me418_RGc4

Once in a lifetime last day buck

I still can't believe what happened today. I never in my life thought I'd see a buck like this in this area let alone get a chance to kill him with my bow. This morning after work I set out to just fill my tag with any buck as today was the last day of season. By some miracle this buck showed himself and didn't have a care in the world as I snuck into 32 yards and shot him while he was chasing does. Amazing how they completely lose their minds during the rut. After gaining my composure after the shot I waited 25 minutes to track him and he had piled up 100 yards away and hardly bled. I was able to follow his tracks in the mud to find him. I'm very thankful I got this once in a lifetime opportunity and made the most of it. A quick green score put him at 204 2/8" gross and 201 4/8" net. He could be one of the biggest typicals ever killed in AZ with a bow and assuming he doesn't shrink too much during the 60 day drying period he could be close to top 10 pope and young in all the world. Once again thankful for this awesome buck and thanks to my wife for putting up with my obsession. I'll post more pics later on.
  4. My brother in law got drawn for his first elk tag this year and he made the most of it. His goal was 350 and he surpassed that by a good amount. Bull his 23 inch and 21 inch thirds. I've got video of him coming into the water we were sitting with the kill shot I'll post a link to later. My dad and mom had seen this bull the night before as he was sneaking across the rez fence to get a drink on our side and he made the same mistake the next night while we hid 30 yards from the tank. He came in straight on and didn't present a broadside shot but it ended up working out. Best part was he died 30 yards from the road. My favorite. https://youtu.be/1JDBqnTyM6A

    Brothers 175 inch buck

Haven't had much time so just getting around to posting but wanted to share my brothers buck from last week. We had scouted hard and had some good bucks found but as luck would have it we stumbled onto this buck right before dark opening day. I could tell he was a good 4 point but wasn't sure exactly how big when he shot but ended up turning out great! Giant front forks and overall a nice pretty buck. Beat his biggest buck by about 15 inches so he was happy.

    Max Sheep Point Holders

Agreed. Would keep dads from getting their 10 year olds sheep tags when they'd be happy shooting a doe on the kaibab. Pretty sure Colorado has that rule and you have to have 5. Need to show some sort of dedication to wanting to hunt that special animal.

    Max Sheep Point Holders

I can't believe someone is spreading any and all secrets of upping your odds to draw a tag to people that are too lazy to do the research themselves. Just to get people to listen to his podcast. That's what's unbelievable.

    Not Closing the Rim?!?!

Not exactly true. Woods canyon, willow springs, bear canyon area is still open. Apache sitgreaves left north of 260 open. Might as well start a thread where we guess the date and time of when the fire breaks out up there. Kind of like the draw results post.

    Wild Horses???

Yes if any horse gets loose and its owner doesnt attempt to get it back they are breaking the law and it is now feral and if I had legal permission I'd shoot every last living horse out there and then go home and sleep like a baby.

    Wild Horses???

I'd pay extra for a tag to shoot a feral horse and leave it there. How are you able to tell the difference between a "feral" horse and one that has been turned out on a range lease?Because none of the ranchers release their horses out here in 3c in fear that they will say they're now "wild" and then cant get them back. And I know everyone that ranches around here doesnt release their horses out there. Just cattle.Oh you can turn your horses loose on leases and get them back. And even the best cowboys have had their horses leave them. So how does someone who does not posses all the intimate knowledge of all the ranchers and their stock tell if a horse is feral? You didn't really answer this simple question. Because the answer is, you cannot tell the difference. It would take a huge chunk of time to identify the members of a wild horse band. So I don't think there will be any otc permits any time soon. And yeah, there are wild cattle too eating grass, drinking etc. But if you have permission of a lease holder to go after them, better make sure they're of age and not branded. Both are generally rounded up for ID. Not defending wild horses but let's not lose our minds. The Govt needs to act. Dont need any intimate knowledge other than that there are ZERO horses in 3c that are from ranchers. Therefore meaning every horse you see out there is a feral horse.

    Stage 3 fire restrictions

Stage 2 you're fine to hunt. Closures obviously no because you can't even be in the forest so yeah you lose your chance to hunt along with your bonus points. But I'd say if it's still so dry you cant hunt in September then most likely everything has either died or moved out of the country looking for water. So it will save you from wasting your time.

    Stage 3 fire restrictions

Guess I don't see the connection with cutting your own trees and a kid starting a forest fire with fireworks?

I think the wilderness hunt did. So the next year I applied for it like an idiot and then it went back to max point holders.

Cant help there. Odds for sheep are tough enough, cant post it on the internet. Jay Scott's doing his best to tell everyone about it though so go and apply for those units he told everyone else to apply for.
