This is my first time elk hunting. I'm shooting a Rossi .270 single shot, the loads I'm using are Remington Core-lokt 130gr.post-15141-0-94118200-1479907334_thumb.jpg

Awesome rifle! Do you know what year it is from?

Thompson Center .54 cal Renegade. 110 grains of Pyrodex with Mag-Spark 209 primer conversion shooting a 430 gr. TC Maxi Ball. Shot my first 2 bulls and 1 cow with this setup.

Also have a .50 cal barrel which I shoot 250 gr .45 cal Barnes Expander Sabots with 2 50 gr Pyrodex pellets. Haven't shot anything since switching to this setup yet. Love shooting the old school smoke poles!

I just got my first muzzy. Inline though....

So I noticed you said you have a .50 cal barrel but shoot a .45 cal sabot. I didn't know you could do that! Learn something new everyday. Pretty rifle!

Remington 1903A3 30-06 Sporterized. Made in 1942 and carried through Whiskey Whiskey Deuce (European Theatre). This rifle has Nazi's, deer, and elk under its belt. My latest harvest was a 19A Cow. I used 180gr Remington Core Lokt. Leupold VX-3i 4.5-14x50mm scope.

I think he’s referring to a .50 cal sabot with a .45 cal bullet in it.  The sabot makes up the other 0.05 cal.  Don’t load a .45cal sabot in a .50 cal rifle.  I’m guessing it would just fall out if you tipped the rifle forward, along with your powder.

Considering a Browning BAR in 300 WM that I have never done anything with.  But my 270 would be real sad, that said it hasn't brought me luck either!

I like your style.  I will be carrying the same rifle that belonged to my grandpa in 5b.

Proof research .28 Nosler with a 3-20 Schmidt and Bender is my latest elk killer.

Excellent choice in optics.  You have my approval rating of 5 stars!

I like it so far.  If the gun ever failed me I could take the scope off an beat an elk to death with it.  Wish they could squeeze 3-27 out of the ultra short.  I ordered a 3-27 ps2 first but it was gigantic.  The 3-20 is a little heavier then the 2.5-25 March it replaced but its rock solid.  The March had a calling on another classic looking 7STW of mine that needed a better scope!  How’s your March working out?

My March 3-24x52 is working great on my lightweight .280AI.

I have a 3-20x50 S&B non-US on my 7RM, and just got a S&B 3-20x50 US for my 6.5 SLR I am rebuilding.

Dreamed of owning a Weatherby since I was a kid. Couple weeks ago, I bought a Weathermark in 300 Wby at a RMEF banquet. Mounted a VX 3i 4.4-14x40 on it. Waiting on dies and nice weather to work up a elk load. Looking at using a Nosler AB or Partition.
