unretreaved animals

Recommended Posts

Back in the mid 80's, way before bows were super hi tech, had a guy stop by camp and bragged about taking a 100 yd shot at a big bull while driving in and missing. There are guys today that are proficient at those long distances, back then we didn't have range finders and I doubt anyone could accurately guess that yardage within a few yards. To top it off he was a Hunter Ed instructor for the G & F, I couldn't understand how he could be teaching a class about ethics and safety.

Flinging arrows at game and hoping you hit it somewhere is a practice that has to stop. I've lost a deer and an elk in my 38 years of bow hunting and it's hard to take, but myself and my hunting partners did everything possible to find those animals. For those that follow up on their less than great shots, good for you. For those that don't, they should be talked to by their partners ( wanted to say ridiculed, but that's not the right word)

Anyway, a miss is a miss, hopefully it's a clean miss, but if its a miss and a bad hit, everything possible should be done to find it.

ever wonder how many animals are shot and never retreived. I have already met 3 hunters this weeked that hit deer but didn't retrieve . they didn't take good shots and didn't wait long enough before retrieving. Last year during the first unit 22 slaughter i saw 2 elk get shot and they didn't drop right away so the hunters never even checked there shoots. So please take alittle more time to retrieve your animals and take ethical shots. WE OWE IT TO THESE AWESOME ANIMALS WE PERSUE > Just sayin . so what percentage of hits do you think are retrieved. just wondering. thanks

so much this. a guy will shoot a bull, the bull doesnt flinch so he doesnt think its hit when it jogs off and so the hunter proceeds to shoot the next bull in the group. pretty soon you have a guy who just killed 2-3 bulls and never even finds the one. a bull elk can take a shot from .300 and not even flinch is what beginners and dumb butt's dont realize.
