23 N vs 23 S debate

Recommended Posts

I've been doing some research for the season this fall and I'm wondering, what is everyone's opinion on Unit 23? Has the north or south produced the bigger bulls in the past? Which half do you enjoy hunting more? Which area is better for glassing? It's a big unit and I'm trying to narrow down scouting to one area or another. I know a bunch of hunters are probably going to be riding the rez line for big bulls wandering over, but that doesn't seem productive to me if everyone sits and waits there. Everybody weigh in and let the fight commence! haha

lol on riding the rez waiting for bulls to wander over

Both 23N and 23S have large bulls and great elk country, but IMO which hunt (early/late) you are referring to might sway perception a bit.

Everyone has their own areas but 23S likely has more glassing opportunity.

Looks like internet scouting ha ha! Good luck to you. No way in heck I would post areas on a public forum! :-) I hope you tag a big one though!!!

Oh BTW, sweet lanyards you make!

I'm not trying to get areas at all, just trying to figure out what kind of area it is and what it produced in the past. I don't want anyone to post "their areas", just discuss the type of bulls pulled out in the past, cover, etc. I'm actually going up this weekend to scout for glassing points. If you like the lanyards buy one! haha

There is almost no one riding the fenc eline if your talking about the december hunt, because the fence line is over all a waist of time during the late hunt. If you want to get away from people during the late hunt i would recommend sitting the fence line. If your talking about the early hunt there arent enough tags to flood the fence line even if everyone sat on it. Good luck.

If you are a newbie to 23 the stay north... the further from the Rim you get the lower the bull densities that time of year and more abusive the country is on you and your gear... looking for glassing points now for a late hunt is a waste of time... the elk are already in their summer grounds. Good hunting...
