and for shooting coyotes...

Recommended Posts

I don't have a varmint gun so I load 95gr V-max with variety in my 6.5x55. It explodes them at all ranges. Seems like a 223 would be more than enough, but can't speak from experience.

Varget powder that is. dang auto correct.

I've got no issue with a .223 or 22-250 for yotes. Never lost one if I did my part. 22LR is another story, while attempting to save fur I went through a phase back in the day with the 22LR. Double lung hits and they'd run far enough that recovery was uncertain. Stuck on saving fur, I went for CNS hits with the beloved 22LR. Worked well but brain & spine is a much smaller target. My opinion: Leave the 22LR in the truck.

On another note: If I'd used a shotgun with hot loads for all my calling back in the day I'd likely doubled my kill numbers. Shotguns are very forgiving, especially when a quick shot on moving targets is all you've got. #4 buckshot is probably best but I like BB's too.

A .300 RUM is the perfect coyote medicine! A 125 grn NBT going a gozillion feet per second vaporizes them, I actually dont know if I've ever hit one..... but the pink mist is a strong indicator! LOL
