Muzzle Brake & Gunsmith

Recommended Posts

I would recommend Phoenix Custom Rifles or Western Precision Rifles. PCR used a badger thruster on my 300RUM when they built it.

I had a brake installed on my 300 Win mag, done by Harry Lawson. One thing i was impressed by is the fact that he noticed i wear hearing aids (20 years in the military killed my hearing) he ported the brake to push the noise forward and away. It is absolutely awesome and I'm always impressed by anyone who takes enough notice of their customers in order to make sure they are as happy as they can be.

Randy Lawson (Harry's son; runs the shop now) is one of the best, most humble gunsmiths I've ever met. I'm not the least bit surprised to hear you say this. He did all of my custom work when I lived in Tucson and I've had stuff sent to him from up here in Flagstaff.

Healy arms is setting up for a full time gunsmith equipment is already set up just trying to get things finalized. All of my breaks are shrewds turned to match barrel.

If you're interested in a good objective (not subjective) comparison test of some common muzzle brakes you may want to check out this link from DF Maisey:

... there are several good objective brake tests by DF Maisey on U-tube.

Dean Maisey is very responsive to any inquiries and the objective comparisons are very revealing in brake performance. Of course you will need a trusted gunsmith for the installation.

I have had great results with the Norwegian Vektor brakes, which closely resemble the Allen Precision Pain Killer (slab) brakes. I am considering a Maisey brake for my .416 Rem.

Good luck in your choice.
