Hoochie Mama elk calls

its not the hoochie so much as the person using it - if used properly its a call that can get bulls and cows to come in.

 

we all know what sounded good today and worked great may show the opposite effect tomorrow.

 

Knowing when and how to use any call is what changes the game.

 

I still have my first hoochie - now it goes in the front pocket and I give a light soft mew while walking - usually when I stop to glass around after moving a short distance , rarely do I use it anymore to just call elk.

It's not the call that's bad it's the callers holding them. I carry three different type calls and one is a Hoochie Mamma. Like it or not it has been successful.

I carry one in my back pocket just in case I need to use it to stop a bull in close or something, but it's not my go to call.

Hyper reed all the way, I believe you can control the amount of sound and type of sounds your producing much better than the mama. I have used the mama in the past with success, but found it easier to manipulate the reed after experimenting with it for awhile. I actually owe Jay Scott big time props for producing elk calling cd's that allow me to drive around at work mimicking the different types of calls. I am happy to say I now know how and why I am using the particular sound in the field. Many Blessings to all on the upcoming season!

lots of people use the hoochie. thats the problem by the first week the elk run the other way because they get call smart....

The problem is people going before the season and calling. They are educating the elk that the people are coming. If you want a calling experience then you will have to go where the people are not.
