First time calling in one of these

Recommended Posts

Just about anything is liable to come in to a predator call, critters being curious and all.

Found a new spot west of the valley and I spent about an hour at my stand before calling. But within a few minutes of calling, I could hear a creature stumbling clumsily in from a wash below.

Took him sometime to get there but he eventually arrived to within a few feet of me and then stared at me the entire time I was there. He thought I was performing a concert just for him.

I wanted to dig my camera out but figured he wasn't going anywhere soon. Just then a grey fox ran in from my right flank and stopped 8' in front of me.

He was puffing and panting and trying to figure me out. A moment later he started to leave while still looking at me and he stumbled right into my new friend. Once he realized that wasn't a rock he just stepped on, the fox leaped 3' vertically. Sometimes I'm torn between holding a gun and holding a camera.

That's funny!!! Would have had a hard time not laughing at the fox jumping when he stumbled into the tortoise! Thanks for sharing the story and pics.

Some people might declare BS, but I swear that little guy made a heck of an effort to get to where he could see me. It was steep and rocky but he made it and managed a smile.

That is amazing you called one in! Too cool.

They are out in force lately.

I have seen 8 before in the wild over about 30 years.

The past two weeks, I have seen 6!!!

Pulled this guy out of the middle of the fast lane while heading up to Laughlin for work, about a mile south of Nothing.

This guy was just chugging along across the road, He actually walked right up to me to get in my shadow for a rest.

This one was about a mile away from the second one, same day. Same thing, walked right up to me and stopped in my shadow.

Another one, about 3 miles from the last two, cruising the road.

The same day as #3, I saw this smaller one.
