Wyoming Pile Up

The CB won't work with todays dis-respectful drivers. They cut each other off in traffic and treat each other like crap on the CB so most turn the CB off on the open road these days. I'm not talking crap here, I drove Heavy Haul and OTR from 1984 thru today but got out of it as a means of a living 5 years ago due to what the industry has become. I do MSHA safety now and can't stand most drivers.

10-4 on that. I have noticed that over the road drivers really are becoming rude and have a give a s*%t attitude.

 

Too many Truck driving schools popping up and rubber stamping the certifications, and sending them off onto the highways,

There were only two responsible drivers in that pile up. The CRST and the Walmart driver. They slowed down and pulled over. Meanwhile, all the rest, for some reason, went full bore ahead. WTF was the FedEx driver thinking? Dude must have been doing 65mph!

 

Scary stuff.

 

Another white knuckle area is I-40 in Northern Az. Those trucks driving that stretch have no regard for public safety.

Another is sunset point south, as dps 25 years ago that hill was a nightmere and still is. Lots of turns ends in catastrophe when traffic stops.

BTW way you do know there was another pile up since this one that started this thread...... RIP to the families and the departed from this last pile up.

Had not heard about another pile up......sorry no disrespect meant on the original post.

 

I remember when I was going to school up in Flag running my own cabinet shop maybe 85 or 86, 40 car pile up on I-40 if I remember it was on the east side of the Walnut Canyon exit.......I was on the Doney Park volunteer fire at the time and my wife was coming home from Tucson that morning.

Really nice 8" snow with some low hanging clouds........it was a really pretty morning but that pile up did some damage.....scary site..........not knowing where my wife was for sure was the worst part.............fortunately for her she had decided to "wait" for roads to clear before she came up the mountain.......

I drive from Tucson to casa grande 5 days a week, have driven through some horrendous weather. One thing I've noticed... many many many truck drivers barrel through like they are impervious to foul weather.

I used to cringe every time a Semi-Truck passed me on a dark snowy morning. The Semi would blow up a cloud of snow around you and you couldn't see 50 feet. You can only guess your location on the road if you can see his tail lights.

My understanding is that this stretch is at the bottom of a long steep downhill. Short notice stopping is rough especially on snow. What was that FedEx driver thinking however! Wow.

We drive this stretch to get to our antelope unit. To say it's scary is an understatement. My heart dropped when I was watching the carnage that was happening. My heart goes out to all involved in this crash and those whose lost thier lives on the same highway two days later in a bigger pileup

As a truck driver for 30 years it is kind of funny to hear some of you complaining and being scared of trucks. I could write a book ,no about 10 books on the dumb, scary, stupid, aggressive things that car drivers do to big semi trucks every day it is unreal and because of this todays truck drivers have about "0" respect for a car driver and remember most truck drivers today are VERY inexperienced at driving big trucks. They came from some 3rd world countrys or took a quick training school and hit the road.

 

That wreck in Wyoming was just caught on tape, they happen often. Next time it is foggy or the sand is blowing watch what people do, cars and trucks.....Nothing, just keep on hauling azz bumper to bumper one little mis step and it's all over.

 

Ever see a sign that says right lane closed in 1/2 mile ...speed limit 45.... only to have a car or pick up pass the semi with only a few feet to spare at about 80 mph ? I see that every day. Like I said I could write a book on the things I've seen and the deadly accidents I have witnessed over the years. I think drivers should all be made to take safety courses every 5 years car and truck drivers . The road is a very dangerous place !!

I couldn't agree more. I never understood why us truck drivers are put in a class of our own like we're from another planet and don't deserve to be on the road. Sure there are alot of horrible drivers out there, but if you look at a majority of truck drivers driving records you won't find a blemish on them. I also think that people don't realize that truck drivers are the backbone of our industrial country, without them you wouldn't have a nice roof over you and your families head, have the shoes your walking in, or the food in your babies mouth and the list is never ending.

As far as the FedEx driver, how do we know he didn't lose his breaks at some point or some other unforseen thing. That's how I see it.

This wreck along with all wrecks are unfortunate and my prayers go out to all involved.

I was always scared driving around WY. Was in a vicious snow storm one year. I was down by Casper trying to get back up to Billings MT. Saw a few small pile ups and many people that blew past me honking, ended up in snow banks.

So, for you people that say, just slow down, WY people don't do that. There's a redneck, cowboy, macho mentality that makes it impossible for many of them to slow down. It's amazing there isn't way more big pile ups on MT and WY. My car insurance was much higher while living there and that is why.

I think the Fed Ex company pushes their drivers too hard. I do a fair amount of driving everyday and they are pretty heavy footed. Of course I could say the same thing about a lot of the school buss drivers I see who are constantly going 10 over on surface streets.
