Arrogant Guides vs DIY Hunters

Recommended Posts

Craig,

As with anything a few "bad apples" can give everyone a bad name. I am a DIY hunter and have had interaction with guides or outfitters in the field many times and most, but not all were very respectful and at times very helpful.

If you are good at what you do there is always some form of hubris when you are doing it. Where guides "go sour" with regular hunters is there attitude towards you hunting in their area. I have run across many guides, some of them sponsors on this website and some I consider friends, in the field and when I am in the area they want to themselves they tell me intimate details of a giant buck or bull only a few miles away from where we are right now. I ask this question (knowing the answer) "why aren't you hunting over there then?" The answer is always the same.

To a good guide hunting is a business and a passion, to me as a diy hunter it is just a passion. You as a guide scout "x" amount of days to prepare your business. Me, as a passionate hunter scout "x" amount of days to feed my passion. Similar but different in intent.
