Seriously though I would like to go watch some of the L.R. archers shoot I seemed to have lost the eyesight for such a sport even before the shoulders. personally I would think easier to keep calm at 100yards than it is at 15yards allowing more time for accuracy. Maybe I should shoot farther so animal can die before I go running in to look for blood as my dumb butt has tendency to do. fly'm straight!

Now your going to also comment and say 1000 yards is too far with a rifle???

So if I do my my practicing and KNOW that I can hit a 12 inch gong every time in certain restraint conditions, cause let's face it you have to put some limits on when you shoot that far, that I shouldn't be taking that shot if I am 100% confident? Shooting a 300 grain bullet that has more than enough KE to get the job done.

Again it comes down to personal ability and preference. Trying to push your ideas onto me just because you can't do it, or think it's not "ethical" is about the same as half of the BS politics going on in our country.

You should be able to get closer, I can show you places that I hunt where you can't. I honestly don't see how 300 yards is any different than 1000 in the right conditions. The animals don't have a chance either way. I never understood that whole game. Sitting 30 feet up in a tree stand with the wind in your face and having an animal walk by up wind is no different. Bottom line they don't know you are there.

I think all you long distance bashers should really be using a stick with a sharp rock on the end. Other wise it ain't fair. Or better yet your bare hands. We are smarter than the animals in the woods. It ain't ever going to be fair!!!! Get over it.

Some of you holier than thou guys are exactly what is wrong with this world.

Swivel- I can guarantee you there are many people that can shoot better (every time) at 1000 yards than you can at 400 yards or less. Or 120 yards with a bow and you at 50 yards. Does this make them unethical because you can't do it? Absolutely not.

I guess every hunter in the early 1900's -1960's (and before) was unethical and we are so much better than them. Shooting at running deer, iron sights, recurve bows at 40 yards. WOW, they were so unethical, we should all be doomed because our ancestors were people of such low moral character.!!! GIVE ME A BREAK, and you guys get off your high horses.

Dang, never realized my opinion was so powerful. You guys do realize I have absolutely no control over any of you. Right? BTW, I do appreciate the personal attacks. Really, I do. Goat hunting is a special kind of hunt.

Swivel if mine came across as personal I apologize. I'll put my name in there instead of yours since many people shoot much better than I do.

I believe ethics is personal and can not be dictated by a set of rules.

punching holes in paper is practice- taking a calm concentrating shot at whatever distance - most will say this makes in the field hunting shots easier - kinda like instinctive shooting- it just happens

90%+ shoots taking in the field are anything but a calm standing shot while being able to take your time and concentrate

the further the distance the % of accuracy can and normally will make for poor shot placement under even ideal shooting options while in the field .

like many have said guy hits paper quarter size groups out to 60 yrds - goes hunting and completely misses an elk at 30 yrds .

I've wondered why over the yrs these 3d shoots didn't involve some simple physical type challenges thru out the courses between and just before shooting .

results would change dramatically

wheres the "program software " for that

try it at home walk fast or run even a short distance and then make a shot as quickly as possible - might surprise you

chasing elk or any animal over Az terrain and finally getting within 100 yrds or less--- changes everything

that's not taking into account --- do you have a clear shooting lane for these long range distances

I was hoping this thread would be about equipment, technique, etc. that long range archers use. I did expect to transition into other areas. Not many long range archers participated making this thread the old same, same.

longe range equipment - probably less than 25% of archers even think about all the technical aspects of simple bow set-up arrow weight inflight statistics of arrows /broadheadsand how they perform - penetration etc. at normal distances let alone 80-90 100 yrds +

the info is out there - somewhere

Didn't you set this thread up to turn out this way? In your opening post you certainly felt the need to share your negative opinion of long range archery shots. You are getting exactly what you wanted.

It is threads like this that cause me to refrain from posting my archery success. I have been fortunate enough to kill animals at some relatively long distances, but I will never post that info on this website.
