Photos from recent trip to Japan

Recommended Posts

We just returned from a recent three week trip to Japan to see my son, a US Marine Captain stationed there, as well as his family, including a new grandson. While there we took a few scenic photos, and I thought I'd share just a few of them on CWT.com.

Photo 1 is a quiet scene in the hills of Nikko.

Photo 2 is the entrance to Enoshima Shrine, one place Lafcadio Hearn writes about in his travels in the 1890's.

Photo 3 is a scene approaching the Daibutsu trailhead in Kamakura, not far from where Kublai Kahn sent his armada to attempt a ransom, only to be defeated.

Photo 4 is the memorial to Englishman William Adams (landed Japan 1598) and his wife, placed after their deaths. Adams was one of the the most influential foreigners, who became a samurai and hatamoto to the shogun in Japan, and instrumental to Shogun Tokugawa Iyeyasu's bid for power and creating a seagoing fleet. Williams once sailed with Sir Francis Drake, who landed on the California coast in 1579. This site is just above Yokosuka US Naval Base, near where Commodore Perry anchored in 1853.

Photo 5 is a trail scene through bamboo behind Kenchoji Shrine in Kamakura.

Photo 6 is a colombine wildflower shot in Nikko.

Photo 7 is the famous Shinkyo Bridge in Nikko.

Photo 8 is one of Toshogu Shrine, dedicated to Tokugawa Iyeyasu, in Nikko.

Photo 9 is also taken at Toshogu Shrine.

Photo 10 is also of Toshogu Shrine.

Photo 11 is also of Toshogu Shrine.

Photo 12 is the tomb of Tokugawa Iyeyasu, the greatest shogun in Japanese history.

Photo 13 is of Kenchoji Temple in Kamakura, another place written about by Hearn.

Japan is by far my favorite place in all of Asia. A fantastic place it is very clean, has great culture, the food is awesome, and there is something for everyone depending on which cities you hit. You made it to a few cities I want to go back and travel more outside of the Tokyo and other city areas that I spent time in for work.

Great pics!
