Rocky Mtn Sheep in Morenci

Recommended Posts

What I can't understand is why coyotes, wolves, and mountain lions haven't been eating them. All three are in the area, and what do those silly cliff carp do? They hang out where they would be easy prey for someone's poodle. Their biggest threat now seems to be speeding cars and pickup trucks.

These sheep are used to hanging around a mine with a busy highway. Game and fish relocates them to better rocky mountain bighorn habitat and they go find the nearest highway next to a mine (cinder instead of copper). They might be pretty sheep, but they're still sheep.

SCI founder C.J. McElroy (who hunted just about every type of wild sheep in the world) used to say they were dumber than their domestic cousins. I don't have his experience, but I can't disagree with his superior knowledge. -- Bill Quimby

They are all over the mine. The biggest one I have seen so far was a brute, both sides broomed, walking across the road by the Morenci Fire Dept. I've never hunted them or had the desire to, but a bud that has told me if you have taken a Coues Deer you could probably take a whole herd of Sheep.
