You will! We haven't heard the last yet. Sorry about your bear. Tough one for sure. You worked very hard for it!!! If that bear is semi-alive...it was definitely aware you were coming and it could have been nuts. Looking for vultures is a good idea

I was hoping you would find him piled up somewhere. At least you tried to recover him.

Tried we did. Everything from crawling through the thickets to crawling into caves with the headlamp and 357. I am planning on going up next weekend to see if I can glass up vultures if he is in fact dead. Something is telling me that he is alive though.

Your dedication to this hunt, finding and harvesting this animal is a credit and shining example for the hunting community. For this I say thank you.

I asked a game warden this exact question last weekend.

Yes you can recover your game past the close of a hunt if: you carry no weapon (I would assume a sidearm is ok), you can't leave the hunting area- like go home and then drive back up to the unit, and you need to contact the G&F about the situation. I can't remember if he told me 24 hours, or something like that too.

He told me that at times hunters have been "searching" for game after the close of a season to get an additional day of hunting or maybe if there was no luck finding the wounded animal, and another animal presented itself to the hunter, then they would take that animal and say it was the one they were looking for. You get the idea.

He told me that if you locate the game and it needs to be put down you will need to contact the G&F to do that. I think this is highly debatable due to an animal suffering and just being plain reasonable about it.

I would have to assume a sidearm is OK in this situation as well. I mean I know there are those whom would circumvent the law and try and have another hunting day, but AZGFD's paranoia does not trump my God given right to defend myself. What are you suppose to do, carry a pointy stick?

Looking for a wounded bear unarmed, call them to put it down? Is AZGFD going to pay your hospital bills if your mauled?

Thanks Edge. That means a lot to me.
