Doe chewing on antlers

Recommended Posts

Anyone every see something like this before? I know they will chew on bones for calcium so why not antlers. Its not everyday you glass up a dead head, let alone another deer chewing on them.

I took this video with a point and shoot camera, using a homemade adapter, through my spotting scope at about 550 yards.

Waaaay cool video. I think lots of animals chew on them. I had some trail cam pics of a cow chewing on one I left in front of my camera. But I seem to have lost it.

Is that a hybrid? J/k. Awesome video. Never seen anything like that before. My dad and I raised eastern white tails for 25 years and never noticed that going on!

Many years ago, I shot a whitetail buck with antlers that still were in heavy velvet when the season opened in late October. We were at the home of one of my wife's cousins in the Sierrita Mountains and I skinned the deer and sawed the antlers from its skull and draped them over a barbed wire fence. When I went to retrieve them a couple of hours later, a cow had chewed off half of one side. To say I wasn't happy would be an understatement.
