Kill 600-900 Bison in Yellowstone????

Recommended Posts

I haven't been on here in a while so I don't know if this subject is already posted. I saw where they are talking about killing 600 to 900 Bison in Yellowstone park to thin the herd. They said it will be either done by hunters or catching them and taking them to slaughter. I am very confused about this. If there are too many, why not transfer them to other states that have small herds and let them repopulate there instead of taking these great animals to a slaughter house for a Bar-B-Que. Anyone see a problem with this?

Supposedly they are one of the only "purebred" herds left. The majority of em test positive for some disease that supposedly can't be transmitted to cattle but they are getting pushback from ranchers over disease and grazing.

I really don't know anything. I just knew some dudes that hunted oryx over there and they came back and told me about the real buffalo

The Yellowstone Herd carries brucellosis I believe which would probably render those animals unworthy to translocate to establish a herd or augment an existing herd.

So if they are sick then why would they be taken to market or hunters allowed to kill them for food? Is the sickness not harmful to humans? Can't it be cured? I just hate to see this happen to such a majestic animal that was almost wiped out because of stupid over hunting. jmo

Wolves don't take that many and they are too busy eating all the elk and moose. They need to be controlled like everything else. If that's what needs to be done then get it done. I for one would shoot one to fill a freezer, wouldn't call it a hunt tho. Just going grocery shopping outside is all it would be. Bison is good food!
