Best Ground Blind?

I am going to need a ground blind for my bison hunt this summer. My treestand is what I normally take on hunts in the woods but the long hours in the blind that this hunt requires along with the anatomy of the bison make a ground blind a much better choice.

 

I want one that is durable, will keep me relatively dry during heavy rain, and able to shoot both a gun or a bow from without a lot of trouble. Room for two is probably a huge plus but not an absolute requirement. Same goes for one that I can stand up and shoot in, maybe a cool option but not a must. Quality and dependability is the most important feature I am after.

 

I would just go buy a Double Bull but since Primos took over from them, it seems like maybe the quality has gone down based on the reports from current models. The old ones are great but you can't buy them anymore. How about Ameristep or Barronet or maybe the Cabela's models? Any advice from you guys that have used these a lot. I have never owned one so I am basically clueless about them other than what I can read on the net.

I have a Double Bull Dark Horse that is from the early days of Primos taking over. I absolutely love it, although I don't use it as much as I should. The only issues I've ever had with it were related to the shoulder straps breaking loose. Primos sent me new bags both times. I have some friends back in Iowa that are die hard ground blind users and I can ask them for their opinions if you would like. Just let me know. Some of those friends who have had issues with hubs and rods breaking in newer models also had excellent customer service from Primos, for whatever that's worth to you.

I posted this up on Iowawhitetail.com, where a bunch of my friends roam (like you guys here!). Like here, most of these guys are great and helpful. I can point out the good ones from the bad ones after enough years on IW. I'll check with others, too.

I've had really good luck with the Barronett blinds. They make enough different models that you can have everything you said you'd like even though they are not must haves for you. The value and quality is there based off of the ones that I have and used.

Just beware when getting a stand up blind that they have to put ridiculous tall windows in them to allow to shoot standing or sitting. Not even sure how they are set up but my dad had a stand up cheapo blind once and the windows were standing height only so you couldn't see oht of it while sitting. It totally sucked. I would look for an old double bull T5 on eBay. It'll run you $3-500 but it'll last the rest of your life.

I have spent a lot of time in ground blinds and a lot of money on them. They all wear out after a few seasons. Latey i have been running a cheapo guide gear 5-hub from sportsman's guide and really like it. Had all the features i like and is very easy to pop and break down. Literally takes 30 seconds. They are only like $60-$70 also.

"I believe my Rhino blind is the best blind I've ever owned. I have had one issue on a bad stitch in a strap. I believe it was a production line issue for a certain number of blinds consecutively. It was no big deal, fixed it myself. But as far as height, shooting either types of weapons, durability and keeping the rain out I really like it. It is a very roomy, tough blind with multiple types of windows.

Nick, I have a DB T5 , the older good ones, you can use if you need to. I won't need it during the summer. It's gonna cost you a couple buffalo steaks tho... Let me know.....

Have a primos double bull and it has been great so far. Depending on your price range take a look at Roger's Sporting Goods. They are mainly duck hunting gear but sell lots of ground blinds including the 'generic' double bulls and others!!

Those Barnett blinds are very well made, but they have this same exact problem ^^^

I have an Ameristep Doghouse blind and not what you are looking for. Woks great for rifles and ML but not big enough for bow hunting. You can't stand to shoot and sitting I am barely looking over the window so the top of my bow doesn't hit the roof.
