Gong stands

Recommended Posts

I've been using that black threaded gas pipe from Home Depot.

I'll have to take a picture of it for ya.

I can unthread the whole thing and stick it in my backpack if I want to hike it somewhere out a ways.

About 5 4' sections

2 T ends

Some end caps

Chain and heavy duty bolts/nuts to hold gong.

Cost me about $90

But well worth it and if I accidentally shoot a pipe I can replace it quite easily.

If u hit a pipe is it pretty much toast?

No, so far we hit it once, kinda glancing but didn't hurt it.

Just need to hit it with a grinder to take the sharp edge off, other than that it's still good.

I'll try to take some pics for you tomorrow.

rebar, cheap fairly easy to carry and sturdy. I am using the brackets in the first link but am not sure the guy on LRH is still making them. They were aluminum and very light. There is a you tube video where a guy makes the brackets out of large threaded nuts welded to rebar. I think you could get away with a 3 way PVC joint with a couple of pieces of PVC to extend them over the rebar legs, not sure if the impact would crack them.

I made some awesome legs out of sliding aluminum tubing but after shooting them and them not sliding anymore I decided that was too expensive a solution.

Pics as promised.

Here's the pics.

One correction I hafta make.

They are 3' long sections and are 1/2" pipe

So you would need 5 3' sections, you could probably get away with 2' but I think that might be a little short.

That gong is a 10"x10" piece of AR 500 E02ACA7A-A73D-4174-9D9C-3A63CF21C8BF_zps

And a pic of bullet impact, probably a .223 hit.

I remember the chain got hit too once but I think that was by a Barnes in .243....that left a jagged mark.

I have a couple of "The last target stands" that rcdinaz posted a link to above and they work really well! Pipe and fittings hit the $45 mark pretty quickly when you actually add it up.

I use t-posts from home depot, i weld them together, Grand total is $12. I drive them into the desert and leave them there. I've found thieves dont want to waste there time trying to remove them from the hard desert. Pm me if you want more details.

Best thing going for gongs and a great company -

Get a steel post adapter and you can mount a gong to a T-post and literally take it anywhere. No making pipe stands BS, no dealing with leg hits, etc. Drive a T-post after mounting a 12" round to it and start shooting. Awesome product from these guys...

I have the set up in the 7th pic, bought a 12" gong, a-frame & gong hooks from him, used conduit I had laying around as a stand for the rest.
