First Turkey Hunt

Recommended Posts

Just back from my first turkey hunt...just two days but found turkeys both days. Had opportunity to try several setups. Forgot critical advice...don't move.

Saw a few large white hens...are they domestic hybrids? Very cool but distracted me long enough to miss my one in range opportunity at a tom.

Message to Ammon at Little Creek - they loved the box call...thank you!!!

Sounds like you had a good time. I keep thinking I want to give it a try, but never seem to get around to it. I hear it's a lot of fun.

Definitely a ton of fun, but best to hunt them in the spring!

It was a lot of fun and will definetly put in for Spring.

Ready...I only found them because I got pushed off plans A and B by quads and camera checkers. I moved about another 1/2 mile away and while I sat trying to come up with Plan C I heard them talking a short distance out

That happens a lot. Always have a plan B, even if you think of one in advance. It works!

Turkey hunting is addicting sounds like you had fun even though you did not get a bird. Were the "large white hens" all white or possibly leucistic which is a partial lose of pigmentation? It also depends a lot on where you were hunting. Even though I don't normally shoot hens I believe I would shoot an albino or leucistic hen if it were legal.

I would say these two hens were all white one had partial black band across tail feathers.

I wasn't prepared to see one never mind two, it was very distracting...probably saved a young tom his life
