Interval training

Recommended Posts

Throughout last summer and my first wildland fire season, I learned how to Interval Train. Anyone who is looking to improve cardiac output and stamina should give it a shot. It helps with hiking, as well as the manual labor part of hunting/packing. Has anybody else seen massive improvements after implementing interval training?

I'm a big fat slob so take what I say with a grain of salt.

Buddy of mine loves HIIT, and says it burns more fat and builds more muscle. Which I don't doubt.

How ever. In the hills, I FEEL much more in shape when I've built up stamina by running 2, 3, 4 miles at a time rather the 1 mile in hard, short intervals.

Hiit will burn more fat and give you a better mirror muscle look. Endurance is best obtained from long lean muscle trained by long cardio sessions. I like doing hiit better though and you will be better in the hills than doing nothing!!

Typically we would alternate HITT with more endurance trail running. Usually switching between the 2 week to week. A week to work hard cardio, and a week to let it recover with longer slower runs. But your right, HIIT sucks

Cycle training. We used to do that between heavy and light days back when I was training for bench/squat/deadlift competition. It insured building both fast and slow twitch muscle.

HIIT has been around for a lot of years, and is proven to build muscle and burn fat.
