Getting into AZ Waterfowl

Recommended Posts

I will be picking up my Chessie puppy here in a few weeks and I want to get into Arizona Waterfowl big time. I am originally from Wisconsin so as far as waterfowl hunting goes I was pretty spoiled. I have discovered that hunting and fishing are 100% more difficult in this State but that makes it much more rewarding. I am accepting all offers of assistance with training my new pup and obviously next year hunting some ducks and geese. I live in the PHX Central Valley but for hunting I am willing to travel statewide. Thanks.,

There is a lot of content posted here if you search back a ways that will get you thinking more like an Arizona waterfowler, but don't discount your Wisconsin knowledge. Consistent waterfowl success here requires scouting, coordinating with the weather and moon helps too.

I live in Mesa but I'd be more than happy to meet at a park sometime with Drake, my 6 year old BLM. We aren't experts, but we don't lose any and have taken a lot of birds together in the last 5 years. You can always PM me with anything specific.

Thank you very much for your service.

Wisconsin has ducks? I think if you look hard you'll find duck hunting in AZ that will rival anything in Wisco! I moved back to ND so I'm no help, but I was amazed when I lived in AZ how there seemed to be ducks just about anywhere you found water!

Hey now Adam. I went once to Location X this year and Shot my limit.

Like said above check some old posts lots of comments on there about methods etc... Lots a people a pretty tight lipped about their duck spots since like you mentioned it isnt easy to duck hunt in AZ.

I grew up pond jumping and on the shores on what used to be Mormon Lake and the surrounding lakes. Hint Hint..

Now I hunt a piece of private land and am super spoiled.

I brought my decoys to AZ 45 years ago but havent used them very much. I fell in love with the deer hunting and never looked back. Coues whitetail hunting is very addictive.
