Deer Leftovers

Recommended Posts

How did everyone do?

This is the first year I've put in for a leftover, and didn't get one. Pretty upset about that because I've been timing my app to arrive there Monday morning.

Last year I received my 4th choice. This year I didn't receive any of my 5 choices...

Depressed for deer season.

Leftover tags is a "game to play", the list is getting shorter and shorter and one must realize they could be skunked for a season. I was for one season and it sucked.

For me, I would rather hunt than not- if I was to hold out for a strip tag, I wouldn't be able to walk by the time I drew one. A late Dec WT is awesome, I had one last year, I find the true advantage for a late Dec tag is MUCH few hunters in the field- problem is last year it rained (very hard) and snowed during the days I had off so it was a bit of a downer. I can't take 15 days off work for the whole hunt- still had a great time but the weather sucked.

My third choice this year was a unit that had left over tags (1st and 2nd was a "trophy hunt") I drew a tag and I am as happy as can be. My third choice will always be a 30 something tag- rather hunt than not.

Good luck to all!

Reviving this thread...I am sure it is just a growth in hunting demand...

But recently I heard a rumor about anti-hunters buying up tags...think there is any truth to that in Arizona?

I have not been to that unit but I have been to some of the other southern units and I'm pretty sure you'll have a fantastic time. Enjoy your hunt.

I have not heard of this going on in Arizona. But I have heard about it happening in other places. Example:

http://www.mcall.com/sports/outdoors/mc-antlerless-deer-licenses-sold-out-09142015-20150914-column.html

However, I just randomly mentioned it to some hunting friends of mine and they mentioned the anti hunter possibility...I just think there is a large demand. But it sure would be nice to put a stop to any of that possibility.

Also, I'm just making discussion. I had a leftover tag the last 8 of 9 years approximately...Last year I got 4th choice, but before that I usually got 1st or 2nd so I must have been pretty lucky. Good luck on everyone's hunts!

Treehuggers are real die hard... til it cost them money, then their ideology goes right out the window. I see it all the time with bee removals. They never want to kill the bees until they hear how much its going to cost to try and remove them alive. We gas em everytime.

We got left over MD tags for 30A- I didn't realize how bad land access is in that area

Lots more people are going deer hunting now that they have learned that can they buy a thousand yard rifle, scope and binoculars and dont have to walk very far. Anybody want to pack out my deer.

Has more to do with social media than that imo.

I agree with trphyhntr(full moon does crazy things to the mind).

I will also add the proliferation of utvs and new roads has pushed a whole new generation out hunting. If they had to "work" like we used to, far fewer would go.

Played the game a few yrs ago and it sucked not having a tag at all.
