Hey just got new GSP puppy she is 9 weeks been told to get her out on live birds asap but vet told us we shouldn't take her any where and literally outside to bathroom and then back inside. Does that sound right? Do you just wait till 16 week before getting them on birds and just start with basic obedience and that's all? Just wanna keep her prey Drive up and hard to do when I can take her out to see live bird any tips suggestions would be awesome thanks guys.

what the vet told you is true as far as what I was told by the vet group I take mine to & the breeder I got mine from. as far as trainer...I did my research & talked to a few, including a guy on here that made a great offer. my pup is 6 months old & I'm dropping him off this weekend with Ed Rucker of TKO outfitters (602-526-7152). I'm not claiming he's the best but I felt comfortable with him. he offered a 1 week puppy camp that I took mine to & I saw the results in my pup after that week that convinced me he was the guy for us. good luck my friend!

Enjoy your pup. Let it be a puppy for a while. There is really no rush to put it on live birds. It's hot outside, snakes are out, it's really not time to put the pup thru that. Work on basic obedience. There are a few good trainers here in the valley, TKO, K Nine Bird Dogs, Blacktree Kennels in Flagstaff, and so on. Wait till your dog is a few months old to really start training on birds. If the dog is bred well the prey drive will always be there.
