Sounds like it might be, but then again might not be. Do you have $ to get a better pair of binos? 15's are the standard but if you had to go cheaper and lower power id say a minimum of ten power. 12's could be a good compromise. You want to be sure before you go hike a mile for a doe. If you can not upgrade any gear, maybe try finding a pinch point of traveling route to water and just sit it.

As dry as it is I'd guess sitting water will be a good idea this year.

Depends where you are at. 35a had a good storm last week so we got snow caps and the creekbeds have water. Not sure about the area op is at.
