Just got back from my first quail hunt in AZ ,great time, really got into the Gambels.

however I just spent the last two hours picking out cholla from my poor dog.

Any tips how to avoid this?

Go hunt where there is no cholla, Or keeping hunting by cholla and hope that one day the dog will figure out not to go near the cholla.

Dog won't figure out it's cholla. If there's birds in there then a good dog is going in. I try and stay away from cholla but it happens at times. Comb and needle nose will be your friend.

Wait till you have to remove a cholla ball from the eye of your dog. I now avoid any area with cholla. The dog wants birds... period. You'd think they would learn seeing as how dang smart they are. I'm the one that needed to learn.

That's the problem I have as well, I have a hard headed lab, he isn't even bothered by it.
