Need help deciding on a New Mexico Antelope unit

Recommended Posts

Only 3 days? Is that true for the late rifle hunt too?

If by late hunt you mean the oct hunts then yes, they are 3 days. I think the NE units are late aug and all the really good units in the SW of the state are first wkd in October for some reason. Maybe trying to let them rut first and then hunt them? Although on my hunt was saw bucks fighting like crazy in early oct.

Only 3 days yes! I was in the grass land down near a river where I saw some cow elk, so they are around. Once a rancher allows his tags to be bought out from a draw the ranch lets say is in unit 10 for example, everyone who has a tag in unit 10 is now legal to hunt in that ranch. But you can only hunt that ranch boundaries. If you bought it straight from the rancher for 2k dollars and he doesn't allow it to go through the draw or let an outfitter on the property then the only tag hunters can hunt that ranch boundaries.

Im guessing you guys are talking about Landowner elk tags? I think this thread was more about draw antelope tags.

I was talking about antelope tags but i was saying I saw elk way into the grass land that you think you wouldn't see them there.

Not sure what Zeke-Be is trying to say. To cover the elk tags, will switch for a moment from antelope, if the LO tags are unit wide (UW) any hunter who drew a tag is entitled to hunt the ranch. If the LO tags are ranch only (RO) then the public draw hunters are not allowed access unless they get written permission to hunt. Good luck trying to get onto a RO ranch with a draw tag. Now getting back to antelope if both an elk hunt and an antelope hunt are going on at the same time, neither hunter has preference.

So are the tags labeled as UW or RO on the tag?
