Vacuum sealers

Recommended Posts

Food saver Big Game.

Better vacuum and has the option for 12V power. Totally satisfied with it so far. Vacuumed sealed a week's worth of stripers at Powell, 3 javelina, most of an elk, tons of store bought chicken, pork shoulders, briskets, and I sous vide dinners usually 3 nights a week. Check Amazon from time to time. They put it on sale for $125 back in the summer and I also grabbed the 3 yr warranty for $9 extra. https://goo.gl/QZKYwG

I had the cheap Food saver from Costco and it lasted for years. It ended up crapping out last year. Went back to Costco and grabbed this one and it was terrible. Ended up having to take it back after 2 striper trips to Pleasant. Don't get it. https://goo.gl/poaJnf

I bought the more expensive one at costco and ended up taking it back and bought the cheaper one. This is the rare case where the cheaper one is better.

I have been wanting to buy one for some time now. There are so many on the market and a broad price range I have no idea where to start.

Bass Pro is having a sale, I need to get over there and get some more bags.

Foodsaver has worked well for me for years. As mentioned the seal strip element will overheat sometimes and you just have to wait a few extra seconds.

The bags do seem to be brittle though as mentioned in mulepackhunter's thread in cooking wild foods forum. They tend to get little punctures/cracks that break the seal and results in some frost/freezer burn.

I've done a few elk and at least 30 deer/lopes in 7 years with my Food Saver. Now and then you don't get a good seal and there's some minor freezer burn but for being a fraction of the cost of higher end units I'm very pleased. Plus Costco has the bags on sale regularly.

BP is 33% off. I got the 11" dual roll package for $13 and change.

Asked this before but no answer. Has anyone actually forked out the $ for a higher end one? They get up there in price and Ive always wondered if theyre worth the $. I have a cheaper food saver and get frustrated with it.
