2018, Desert sheep unit

Here we are again. Same argument as last year.  You can't count on the outfitters to help you choose as the several I talked to only wanted to steer me to the units THEY knew and not somewhere else that was potentially good. Obviously last years strategy didn't work.

Good Luck in the draw.

If i was sitting on max, i would apply for 31/32 this year. It is on the rise for sure. A young gal shot a 180" ram in there with a bow last year and there are supposed to be a good number of big rams. 22/24b might take a max holder 10 more years to draw at this rate and the biggest rams are not being killed there anymore. If you want to go guided, i would personally go with Dieringer Outfitters.

Jay Scott and Brian Rimza broke down the sheep units on Jay’s podcast.  There is some very useful info on the podcast.  Also Brian wrote an article for GoHunt.com that has good info as well.

I don't care what everyone else is putting in for, just what I am putting in for.

When I drew my antelope tag I applied for one choice and drew tag #1.

I am open to 22 or 24B, not really thinking there are 180 class sheep in any other units right now.

In 2018--

18B-181 4/8

28-189 3/8

41W-184 3/8

I don't think you've walked the entire state and looked at all the remaining sheep country besides 22/24B.  There will be several 180+ rams killed in other units again this fall, proving you have no idea what you are talking about...   Just wait it out for the tag, and don't act like you know what you are talking about.  Who are you planning on hiring to find you your ram by the way??

I would bet there will be more 180's this year than any year in AZ history.

I hope this is a good year but like said, I may still have to wait 10 more years to get a tag.  I heard they are capturing the rams out of 24B and sending them to Texas.

The biggest sheep in the state 2 years in a row has come out of 28south. The 2018 ram dang near broke 190” and it had around 5” busted off on one side. I was fortunate enough to handle it when we were checking in my buddy’s sheep with G&F. Absolutely unbelievable ram
