    Holy trail cams batman!

My understanding is the new rule will be no trail cameras with remote capability of sending pictures and no trail cameras within 1/4 mile of a point source of water (springs, dirt tanks, livestock water etc.)

    Some to share

FYI If the Governor review passes AGFD new rules, then it would be illegal to have a trail camera within 1/4 mile of a point source water. If the purpose of the trail camera and pictures was in anyway connected to taking/hunting wildlife! Therefore the camera you took these pictures with would be illegal if in any way you planned to use these photos in an hunting scenario!

AZGF Restrict Use of Trail Cameras

Has anyone heard that AZGF might start restricting the type and use of trail cameras for hunting?

    Peaks Hunt 2014

This is a throwback from last year's elk hunt. Got to break in our new wall tent. First time hunting this area, but after hunting hard for 6 days, I got it done on the last day. Not a big bull but better than a cow. Beautiful Weather Beautiful and neat country to spend time outdoors Got to use the mules to pack out some elk! Any day there's meat hanging is camp is a good day! After filling the elk tag, stayed a couple extra days for some squirrel hunting The good news is we were drawn again this year for the same hunt. My wife drew the first hunt and I drew the second. Packing up now to head to the mountains.

    AZGFD DOES IT AGAIN

Access to public and state lands is a problem in AZ and accross the west. This GF policy may not be the answer and I don't know what the answer would be. But my way of thinking is it is not fare that a member of the public not having access to a chunk of public or state trust land and yet a rancher leasing that land from the government and who is denying the public access to those same lands can graze his cattle and let only his family or friends access to hunt that public and state land. I'm not suggesting the rancher must allow hunting on his private land but he should have to allow access to those public and state trust lands he is leasing.

    Caseys 30" Muley, 1st deer!

I would like to see a picture of the tail on that one. I'm referring to the tail on the deer guys, keep it clean. After reading the articles on hybrids Jim Hefferlfinger posted, their are some weird facial characteristics on this deer.

  13. I have been reading a lot of discussion regarding the proposed changes to the hunting seasons especially in regards to the 4 day season and fall javelina seasons. Also discussion regarding the ADA Deer Survey. One thing I think is not clear within the discussions and the ADA Deer Survey is how the new 10 Day vs 4 Day seasons are going to occur. Currently in Southern AZ there are three opening weekends of deer seasons during Oct/Nov. The first is the 4-Day wt season and the overlapping 4-Day md season. The second weekend is the 10-Day md season and the third weekend is the 10-Day wt season which overlaps with the last weekend of the 10-day md season. The proposed GF changes are to eliminate the 4-Day season and only have two 10-Day seasons. In Southern AZ this will mean that both 10-Day seasons will have overlapping wt and md seasons together. For example, a 10-day md and a 10-day wt season will open on Friday of week 43 (Oct 27) and then the second 10-day wt and 10-day md season will open of Friday of week 45 (Nov 10). What will this mean? Managers will no longer be able to spread out the deer tags over 3 opening weekends, there will only be 2 opening weekends, meaning more hunters in the field on the opening weekends. More crowding etc and in many of the southern units with the access issues forcing more and more hunters into smaller areas, these changes have the potential to increase the competition for camp sites and hunting areas etc. And what effect will this "hunter density" have on access? In some of the southern units such as Unit 32 and Unit 33 there are a lot of tags in those units. For example, last year Unit 32 had 2400 deer tags (wt/md) during the Oct and Nov seasons. These deer tags were spread over 3 opening weekends. With the new proposed two 10-day seasons, these 2400 tags will only be spread equally between 2 opening weekends instead of 3 opening weekends. So you see, changing the 4-Day season to 10-Day season is not as simple as if first appears. Now on top of the the already crowding issue with hunter density add a few javelina hunters during the opeing deer season weekend. Most of the proposed GF season changes are in the name of improved hunter retention and recruitment? Is increased hunter density during opening weekends and decreased hunter success (fewer hunters having an opportunity to harvest a buck) your idea of keeping hunters interested in going hunting and inticing new hunters to start hunting?
  14. Littlebear, What unit and what year did you harvest your hybrid? Who verified it was a hybrid and lastly, did you ever contact Jim Hefferlfinger (AZGFD) regarding your hybrid or send him photos? Jim Heffelfinger has been doing a lot of research on hybrid deer.
