Pointing dog hunting range
Schmitty replied to Tres's topic in Small Game, Upland Bird, and Waterfowl Hunting
It depends. The ideal dog will run big (I don't much like them out beyond 1/2 mile) as long as they will hold and not push the covey. After the birds are broken up the dog really needs to SLOW down and work tighter when working singles. However, I've only had 1 dog out of 5 that truly figured it out and would slow down after the initial rise and really excelled at finding singles. I guess that's why you run them in braces so that each dog can compliment the other! -

What does Healy's charge to do the transfer? Do they handle putting together a trust or only individual forms. Fingerprints and passport photos done on site?

If the arca rail is included @ $225 I'll take it. PM me your contact info and we can work out the details. Thanks! Schmitty

Do you have a plan for keeping them cool thru the summer? AZ heat and rabbits don't mix very well. We used to use large blue ice blocks which needed to be swapped out midday so 2 per rabbit per day even in full shade. Otherwise, they are pretty easily kept. I personally like hybrid does that are 1/2 Flemish Giant with a NZ or CA buck as it gives a bit more length to the loin and hind legs which is where all the meat on the carcass is. Good luck! It certainly is doable and will be good for your kids. It's been 30 years since I sold my last rabbit so I can't offer much help on where to look. I'd get your kids involved with the local 4H club and there should be plenty of resources to get you started.

Yuma County Fair will be 1st week of April. You can support 4H youth and buy some overpriced rabbits @ the auction or purchase them cheap at the resale barn afterwards. Buy yourself a couple of CA or NZ does and a buck and you'll be gtg. Or grab a .22 and take a walk in the desert which is both cheaper and a whole lot more fun!

I am looking to add another 650 or 750xl to my bench so that I can keep one machine permanently setup for small primers and the other for large. I'm good on caliber conversions unless you have a spare .308 or creedmoor set laying around. Condition doesn't matter as I'll have Dillon refurbish anything that needs attention. Just seeing what's out there before I make the drive to Scottsdale. Thank you!
