    Suggestions for new Bow String?

All we use is AP Custom string. His name is Andrew and he will build you any string you want for great price shipped. His number is 505-331-0892. Everyone in my family shoots his strings and loves them. Also a lot of folks from the sandia bow hunters are using his strings.

    Unit 23 New Mexico Muley

Thanks Amanda for posting these pictures for me. Here's the short story. It all started on Wed 04, 2012 at about noonish. Myself and my daughters boyfriend Jeremy head south from Albuquerque to the Glenwood, New Mexico area. That evening we scouted the area high and low and didn't see a deer. Well on Thursday morning (1/5/12) found myself and Jeremy at day break between a group of deer that had about 15-20 does and 4 really nice bucks close at hand. Before you knew it Jeremy had closed the distance and had a huge 3x3 that was every bit of 28 inches wide within 30 yards but no shot available according to him. We worked these deer until about 10ish that morning. That afternoon we hunted the same area with no deer in the area, but we think we found the cause as a lone wolf came into view. We searched all over the mountain looking for the rest of the pack but he was by himself. My son Andrew, daughter Erika and sons girlfriend Amanda made it to the cabin at about 1:30 in the morning (1/6/12) which made for a short night. Friday morning found us all up on the mountain looking at lots of deer at day break. Andrew and Jeremy were working two different groups of deer on the same ridge just across the canyon from us. Yes that big ol 3x3 was in the group with a really nice 4x5 hot on his tail. After watching the boys for a while I decided to look around the area when I spotted a doe feeding only 107 yards form me. I decided to get a better look I spotted what was about 15 deer in total to including two more buck. I closed the distance down to under 70 yards quickly when I heard two deer fighting just behind the juniper tree and me. Thats when I noticed a small doe with a small 3x3 30 yards to my right as they scampered off from me and I said to myself dang game is over. Thats when I noticed more movement to the left of me as a doe stepped out from behind the tree at 50 yards and the tips of one of the bucks antler just behind her. The buck walked out to 55 yards and stopped giving me my shot as I was already in full draw. The arrow hit its mark right where I was aiming on the left shoulder as the buck jumped and kicked. Thats when Erika and Amanda came running as they heard the SWACK of the arrow hitting the deer. We gave the deer about an hours time before all of us started the tracking job. For about the first 30 yards there was blood everywhere, until my arrow came out of the deer. The next 50 or so yards was one drop of blood then another drop about 4-5 yards apart. The deer only went about 80 yards total. Top picture is where he layed. Look at that hole in his left shoulder. Second picture is me with my gear and my buck. The third picture is of all of us with my buck. Thanks for looking and happy new years to everyone. My gear- BOW- HOYT TURBO HAWK at 27 in draw. 2011 New Mexico 16a Elk hunt

After lots of day of waiting, our 2011 elk hunt was finally upon us. Our hunt started on 9/11, with the first day brought lots of oppertunity on smaller bulls and a ton of cows but no rut activity. On day two we found the bull that my son Andrew was able to harvest. I spotted this bull at first light and the stock was on as we tried to get in front of this lone bull. After about a 45 minute stock we closed the distance to 80 yards when the bull froze on the saddle that we where hoping to get to so we could cut him off. Any how the wind started swrilling on us and the bull just stayed froze there. That is when my son told me that he could make that shot. Yes I know 80 yards is a long shot for a archery shot, but when you have a kid that practices regularly at that distance and groups within 3 inches that it would be no problem. So, I ranged him again and told him that he was still 80 yards from us. Thats when my son stated I got him and the arrow was off, thats when we heard the sound that every bow hunter loves the hear S-W-A-C-K and the bull hunched up then walked off. We watched him walk down the ridge and bed. Thirty minutes later we worked our way up to where he was standing and found a bloody arrow with bright red and bubbly blood. Thats when we heard someone on a 4-wheeler driving in the caynon below us. There was no road in this caynon and he caused the bull to get up and head out of the caynon into a bigger caynon. Yes there was a few choice words saided to that dumb A--. We ended up finding the bull at 8:30 that morning and the work begain. Andrew ended up harvesting a really nice 6x7 bull on 9/12/11, what you guys think he'll score. The remainder of the hunt was lots of fun with plently of oppertunity to harvest small bulls and cows but I was holding out for atleast a 5x5. On our last day up there 9/16/11 was the day that we finally witnessed some rut activity as that morning we got right in the middle of a huge group of cows and anywhere form 8 up to 15 bulls running nuts all in this caynon. It was a ton of fun. My first oppertunity came when a nice 5x5 came in on a string to 20 yards, as I got ready to draw on this bull my son asked me to hold out. At that time I asked him why? Thats when he asked me if I seen that huge 7x7 standing cross caynon form me screaming his head off, I go no I just been focues on this 5x5 coming in. Andrew said, I'm going to change calls and lets see if that big bull will come in. About 45 minutes later that big bull was coming in and was at 50 yards but no shot oppertunity. Thats when a small rag bull pushing 5 cows came within 10 yards of us no shot again. We worked all those elk until about noon that friday with plenty of oppertunities to harvest a smaller bull or cow but no arrows went down range. I will admit that we all had a great time. Ready to do again, hopefully next year we will draw another tag. On another note my dad, daughters boyfriend, and to close family friends have a tag here in New Mexico on Oct 22-26. Maybe the bull might be more active then.

    Sunrise BBQ

Sounds good to me, we will be heading up on the 2nd for the shoot. It would sure be nice to meet others. Since there already ia a BBQ planned up there maybe we could just get together and enjoy a campfire for one or two nights. Just a suggestion. See you all up there. Thanks, Louie (ElkoholicRN)

    New Mexico Catfish

Well this morining myself and my son (Andrew) went out to catch some fish at sandia lakes in albuquerque. When we first got onto the water we ran every spinner you could imagine for some big rainbows but no luck for trout. We switched up from running spinners to power bait and worms to hook up with the first fish of the day to be a 23 inch 4.5 lbs cat, on ultra light tackle, with 4 lbs test line man was that fun . We did manage to limit out with 5 fish each ranging from 2 lbs to 4.5 lbs, just another fun day spent with my son on the lake. Thanks, Louie ElkoholicRN
