    Off road game recovery?

Just curious as to what the law is for driving off road to recover an Elk. I always thought it was 1/4 mile from the road on forest service land ( unit 10 off 124 road). I had a game and fish officer tell me other wise but couldn't tell me the distance for sure. Thanks.

Boquillas new rules / permit structure out

Whoo no spin intended at all. I don't have a dog in the fight other than being a sportsman. This is an issue that has bothered me for years. The k4 the oro the big chino and many more ranches all have the same issues going on and it's a sad deal through the whole state. Guess my point was that I think it would be naïve to not think your connection with a3 is working against you a bit. Considering if you kill the buck your talking about it will no doubt be marketed for A3 so why would they help the competition? I understand why your twisted about this and from the email it seems you have breach of contract. Good luck and hope you will still be this concerned about the access for the rest of the public if they grant your wishes to hunt when everyone else is kept off.

Boquillas new rules / permit structure out

this is guide drama at its best or worst. Shane buys a state wide tag and is told he can hunt the big bo. Shane has a3 doing the scouting and looking for the buck, the buck they want doesn't turn up when Shane can come to town. . Epo runs the big bo. ( make no mistake about epo running the ranch) epo gets the next years tag and shuts out A3. I feel bad for you Shane and appreciate your purchase. Maybe they will let you hunt it without guides?

Ok, Enough is Enough!!!! Unit 9

Do you think they dropped the 10 early rifle to 40 tags because the big bo will be closed to the public?

    Waited 17 years

Wells it's been a long wait and I know others have waited longer and still don't have a tag but I drew the 17b/19b archery tag! Looking forward to the hunt! Now if I can figure out the private land issues.

How long till results are out?

Anyone remember how long after cards were hit that results were posted?
  11. hey guys and gals, Im looking for a wall tent with a stove to rent. I am helping a few brand new hunters on there first cow hunts in early december. I have a trailer but they would really like to get the full experience and really want to sleep in a wall tent at elk camp. If anyone could help us out that would be great. Please DM me if you can help or know someone that can help. Thanks.

I Have returned...sorry for the delay

Thanks guys, it was sure the lowest point of the hunt and i have never felt worse that when I spooked the cows off, but then to have such a quick turn of events and emotions when the bull came in was simply amazing. i guess thats why we do it. on a side note we had the whole family for help packing the bull out. kids wives and sisters. best hunt i have ever had.
  13. Well I must apologize for the delay in the story. I was typing the story and thought it was only a draft and I guess somehow I posted the story, well I guess I will pick up where I left off. As I said I had to return home from the hunt and when I did my brother found the big non typical. They got on the bull and within 60 yards but couldnt get a clear shot or a shot that my mom felt comfortable with. When you see the pic of the bull you will understand the hard decision it was for her not to take a shot either way. So the next four days were spent on the big bull but for one reason or another we just couldnt make it happen. I had returned to camp and we were hunting hard with long hikes everyday and late night walks back to the truck. Im 28 and i pretty good shape, my brother is 26 and in amazing shape, my mom is 50 and doing the best she could....on the second saturday of the hunt we chased the big bull into a remote area where we would eventually lose him for the rest of the hunt. on the way out hiking in the dark for an hour or so I turned to my mom and said "im so proud of you and all your hard work" ha wrong time i guess! mt sweet little mom turned to me and said "shut up and keep walking! im getting F****** tired" blahahahah my brother and i couldnt stop laughing because we had never heard her say anything like that. that night we decided that if a good bull came by we would do our best to get her a shot and we would forget about the non typical. the next morning after a mile hike in we found the big bull had moved out of the canyon and up into a very huntable area. we got the wind in our favor and moved out in front of the heard. it was just mom and myself as my brother and dad glassed from a ridge. We dropped our packs and inched in as we crested the last small rise we came nose to nose and 6 yards with.... a cow and the hunt was over. THe elk blew out, i quickly cow called and it seemed to slow them down at about 200 yards out. I sat down knowing i just blew the best opportunity she might have the rest of the hunt. I felt sick. My mom being the wonderful mom she is said its not your fault lets just try to cow call the bull back. know the chances of that happening were slim to non i halfassed called to make her happy. but before i could explain why this wouldnt work i looked up to see antler tips walking right at us. I quickly placed her in front of me and backed up but the bull was moving in to fast. she nocked an arrow the bull was walking right past us looking for us. he stepped into a clearing i ranged him and whispered 50 yards, cow called, the bull stopped bugled and her arrow passed through right behind the shoulded. She asked over and over if it was a good hit. within ten seconds she knew it was as we heard the bull pile up. It was not the non typical but a bull she would be very happy with. We called my brother on the radio and he and dad made the hike over. I couldnt be more proud of all her hard work and dedication to shooting and working hard all summer to make a great shot and a clean kill. Here is her bull and the big non typical, hope you enjoyed the story and sorry for the delay.

    Mom archery bull.

Well this year my mom was probably the only person to be disappointed with a unit 9 archery bull tag when the draw came out. She wanted the rifle tag and didn't even want to put in for the archery tag but I messed up the app. When I told her she was so mad at me she hung up the phone on me. When I called my dad he was just as excited as I was to be able to hunt the Bulls we had been following for the last few years. A few days later at dinner my dad brother and I explained what an awesome hunt she had been drawn for she began to understand. She knew she had a lot of work to do ( shooting her bow and physically getting ready for the hunt). She worked her butt off and shot every morning before work and every afternoon before dark. She would run and hike throughout the week. As me I knew I would not be able to take any other clients this years or she would kill me. So we scouted and watched elk through out the summer. When it came time for the hunt we were all blessed with enough time off from work to spend the whole hunt in the woods. After seeing few people all summer scouting all of a sudden the woods were packed and hunters and helpers were crawling through the unit. We were able to walk into road closed areas to find trucks and quads that must have missed the sign...we were still able to get away from people and hunt big cl screaming Bulls. Through the hunt we were looking for a big non typical but hadn't see him for about two weeks. On Monday I had to go home for a emergency at work, of course my brother
