    Turkey shot size question (Updated)

If you have any pictures of the patterns those guns are shooting I would love to see them 👍

    Turkey shot size question (Updated)

I’m a little confused by your post. I’m just looking for a lethal ammunition/choke combo that is effective to kill a bird out to 40 yards. I don’t think anyone mentioned shooting longer distances? From what I gather the industry standard for shooting turkeys is 40 yards and in…correct? Like I’ve mentioned previously I’m new to turkey hunting. Your tactics and decoy strategy seems like a great idea. I have no intention of shooting long distances. I’m primarily an archery hunter. So, getting in close with an animal is nothing new to me.

    Turkey shot size question (Updated)

Thanks for all the replies! I’m fairly new to turkey hunting, so I’ve had to do a ton of research on turkey loads and different chokes. I found a YouTube channel called “Blue Collar Outdoors USA”. On their channel they share loads of information about different ammo choices and chokes on a multitude of different shotguns. After watching most of their videos I’ve narrowed my choice of ammo down to TSS and possibly the Winchester Long beard XR. However, the TSS completely destroys lead rounds. I ended up purchasing an Indian Creek choke tube in a .570 constriction. Indian creek recommends Apex or Foxtrot ammunition for their chokes. So, I’m planning on picking up some Apex green leaf or some of their other 9 shot shells to pattern my gun. If anyone’s curious how TSS rounds compare to lead shells or what choke constrictions are best. I would highly recommend you check out the YouTube channel I mentioned above. Thanks again for all the help 👍

Thanks for sharing 👍 What choke are you running?

    Turkey shot size question (Updated)

I’ve watched a lot of YouTube videos on TSS verses the lead (specifically the one you mentioned) and I’ve had mixed reviews on it. The TSS are expensive, but shoot incredible patterns at 40 yards. I’ll definitely pick up some longbeard xr to try out though! Hopefully I can save some money 😂

    Turkey shot size question (Updated)

That’s all I could find as well. I figured there would be something more specific than just shot shells. Thank you for your response 👍

    Turkey shot size question (Updated)

********* UPDATE ********* After my initial post I picked up some APEX TSS turkey shells. I figured I would share my results to help others save some money! I went with the Apex GT-20, 3”, 1 5/8’s OZ, 9 shot (20 Guage). I chose these shells due to the recommendation of the choke manufacture. Gun is a semiautomatic 20 Gauge Beretta Ultima Turkey (24” barrel). I have it topped off with a Trijicon RMR red dot and an Indian Creek .570 choke tube. The 40 yard target had 60 pellets in the 5” circle and 155 in the 10” circle for a total of 215 pellets. (I did have to make a slight sight adjustment after this shot) 20 yard target. Sorry I couldn’t get the photo’s to upload correctly! ************* Original post ************* Good afternoon, I’ve been looking through the regs and I can’t seem to find anything regarding legal shot size for turkeys. Does anyone know if there is a regulation on shot size in AZ? After doing lots of research on turkey loads, the TSS 9 shot seems to be incredibly lethal. So, I just want to ensure I’m good to go before spending the $70! Thanks, Cameron

    Unit 10 youth hunt question

I should have clarified that I’m not new to elk hunting, just the youth hunt in October. I’m an archery hunter so I’ve really only hunted them in September when they’re still pretty vocal. I just wasn’t sure what to expect this late in the year. I truly appreciate the information though 🙏

Thanks 👍. This is the first time I’ve been on a youth elk hunt. So, I wasn’t really sure what to expect.

    Unit 10 youth hunt question

Good afternoon, My son and I went up to unit 10 for a few scouting trips at the end of August and beginning of September. However, we decided to stay out of the unit while the archery hunts were going on. So…I was just curious if anyone has been up there recently, and what the rutting activity is looking like? Are they still making noise? Thanks, Cameron

Questions about the youth cow hunt in unit 10

Ok, thank you for the info!
  15. Good afternoon, My son was fortunate enough to draw the youth cow tag in unit 10 (October) this year. I’ve personally never stepped foot in the unit. We’re going to head up and do multiple scouting trips before the hunt starts. I was curious if anyone would be willing to give me some advice on the unit. I plan on buying a pass to hunt the Boquillas ranch. However, since you aren’t allowed to use four wheelers or side by sides on the ranch I’m planning on hunting the east side of the unit instead. Mainly because I don’t want to beat up my truck on rough roads. So, my question to anyone that’s had this tag. Can you find elk all over the unit or should I be hunting the ranch? Thank you in advance, Cameron
