I haven't hunted there for about 12 years. Big bug mesa was great until it turned into a war zone. I'm sure it's worse now. Even the archery hunt turned into a zoo.

Jim, I don't know 24B, but I would be willing to talk with you or take you out a few times to show you how to hunt. A few scouting trips with a couple of experienced hunters will give you plenty of knowledge to be able to hunt on your own. There is nothing wrong with going on a guided hunt, but it's expensive! You can gain similar experience during scouting/hunting with normal guys. There's also LOTS of YouTube video's that give you plenty of information on how to start hunting in Arizona!!! If your interested PM me. Adam

10 is a tough age to start on a primo tag. Hate to say it. Taylor had a 12AE tag when she was 13, and even then, it was tough. We saw plenty of deer, and some real toads even. But getting in a good position, with a good rest, and cooperation from the bucks was very difficult. Had some opportunities, but nothing we could actually call a legitimate realistic chance. Thought we had it in the bag a few times, but one little thing would mess it up. The buck played cat and mouse, behind a tree, would not stop, turned the wrong way, doe in front or behind, never stopped walking, stopped facing away, etc. After 9 grueling days, she was spent. No buck in the truck, but lots of lessons learned. It was not the distance of the shots, but the conditions. Get her out NOW, and start practicing in all positions, off a stump, off a bag, prone, sitting, kneeling, tripod, bipod, pra rice setting up quickly, practice turning turrets, practice follow up shots, etc. Shoot a comfortable rifle. Work up a great load. And get her shooting farther than you will actually let her take a shot on real game. We practiced out to 1000 routinely. But shooting at a stationary target is only half the battle. Getting a buck to stop in a good position at a reasonable distance and getting in a stable position quickly is the other half. Then again, you might get super lucky and glass up a bedded road at 200 yards where he doesn't even see you. Play games in the field. We played a lot of "hot lava", where the ground is off limits. Rocks, logs, etc. Also helps with the noise of walking. Stop to look at sign and teach her. Look at the squirrels. Looks at the birds. Find some sheds. Take a nap on a ridge. Bring tons of junk food and snacks. Let them nap in the truck. Teach them about nature and geology and the game animals. Be patient. Most of all, let THEM choose what to shoot. I learned this the hard way. Put MY expectations on Taylor. We could have shot 100 different bucks, but I, ME, wanted a big boy. Talked he or out of 20 bucks that were 3.5 year old 4x4s or better. Talk about frustrating to both myself, my ego, my patience, and most of all, to Taylor. The following year, Taylor killed a great first buck. And I was not real thrilled with her choice at first to take him. Again, visions of grandeur. But she was thrilled, and the buck ended up being bigger than I thought. 171". This year, she is down with the quest for a biggun'. But I will let her decide when to pull the trigger without a comment.

My portal account says I drew tag #1. I'd heard a rumor, after cards were hit, that 3 of the 5 tags went to a party application. I just read that again here on a previous thread....unreal!!! Anyone ever hunted on the YPG?

$175 OBO. Tree Stand is in excellent shape. Only used for one season. I'm selling it because it's been sitting on a shelf in my garage for several years now, collecting dust. I am the original purchaser/owner. Will include TWO safety harnesses and tether ropes that have never been shock loaded, and a set of Summit Rapid Climb stirrups. Also includes original manual and directions. Cross posted on Sierra Vista and Tucson Craigslist. I am located in SV.

We never hunted that high unless we were throwing a hail Mary. I also saw a few spooky things up there so it wasn't high on my list of places to hunt. My hunting buddy refused to go back up there. He refers to it as Wicca Mountain. We were never super successful in 20a, but we were also not as good of hunters when I hunted there. I am not great now, but I have learned alot and gotten way better equipment than last time I hunted deer in 20a.

Depends on where you want to hunt. It is a diverse unit. Full pine trees all the way to high desert. I have not hunted in 20a in about 5 or 6 years. I don't know what condition the areas are in after the fires. If you hunt the high desert and scrub oak areas, find some water sources not near a road, and get high and glass, move, glass more, move, glass, etc. If you are going to hunt the pines up on big bug, I would get out toward the edges and work off the fingers that lead off the plateau. There are big deer in the unit, but you are going to work hard for them. They don't get old by being dumb. The deeper you get away from the main roads & boundaries of the unit the better off you will be.

look on the azgfd website for spots, bring a tripod and binos. no need to backpack, theres deer off the main roads if you look hard enough

He was found. Animal control picked him up and hauled him to Doggie Jail. Hopefully the old fart doesnt pull this again with us. We are happy to have the old man back!

For those paying attention we recognized this trend a few years ago. I'm actually surprised we have leftover tags at all!

https://www.couesazguideservice.com/ These are your guys. They live, guide and hunt that unit. Could be an interesting hunt since over 100,000 acres of it just burned up.

Cut tags by 10-20% and make everything except youth hunts at min 3 points to draw and no shooting spikes! This will start a riot here, but I'd vote for it in a second-- All of us residents already have 2 points before the draw, so you can't draw 2 years in a row.. big deal. At least whey you do draw, you will have a few of last year spikes to look at and place to look without some one walking by. More and more people moving into the state, more and more shooting/wounding animals too far away with better and better equipment all with lessening habitat to not do something about it. My .02

Here’s a great breakdown. Hope it helps. matthews- a favorite of eastern tree stand hunters and noobs. It’s important to note that every Hoyt, bowtech, pse, and prime fan are closet Matthews fans too. PSE is for everyone who swears vortex are the same as swarovskis and male domestic partnerships. prime is the choice of the country’s best, brightest, and most good looking people. Hoyt is the choice of the prime shooters slightly uglier and dumber little brother. i hope this completely objective review helps guide your decision. P.S.- I know you didn’t ask for a bowtech review but bowtechs are for everyone who thinks it’s a good idea to put spoilers on Honda civics.

Cool looking rack, if G$F wants them.....they can go find them................

Ethics police, comin in hot. Give it to G&F so they can auction it. The millions in app fees plus the “education fund” and upcoming tag grab aren’t quite cutting it these days.

I might know someone who has thousands of them...😉
