From field to table: Tonights dinner is BBQ Pulled Canadian Black Bear. 1. Season bear meat with salt, pepper, and granulated garlic 2. Sear in a frying pan or on the grill. 3. After searing, immediately place meat in a large pan with salsa verde or green chili. 4. Cover with foil and place in the oven for 20 hours at a temp of 170 degrees. I know it sounds like a long time, but it makes the meat so tender. 5. Take meat out of the oven and shred it. I use forks which typically work the best for me. 6. Place shredded meat into a crock pot with your favorite seasoning and BBQ Sauce. 7. Heat on low for approximately 4 hours and it will be ready to serve.

Maybe the dude was so far in the back country and he does this so often that he’s used to it. Yuppie or not that’s cool and I’d love to be in that position!

Actually manage our wildlife with biologically sound decisions...not $$$ as the reason. G$F has destroyed the mule deer and Elk herds in this state.

It's been a lot of years trying in NM and a couple in AZ and I finally managed an archery coues. my first velvet buck as well. I went In for a few days opening weekend and saw a lot of bucks, even had a few spikes and does in range but nothing I could justify shooting. When I got a few days off my girlfriend encouraged me to go back in. I saw a lot of deer but still got my but kicked for about 3 days in the back country. The last day I decided to take it easy, slept in, dried my gear out by the fire for a few hours, struck camp and started hiking out around 9 or 10. I wanted to stop and do a little glassing on the way out but before I could even get to my ridge I spotted a nice buck across the canyon from me. I tried to slide off of a steep hill to cut him off in the bottom but before I made it far a train of about 8 horse riders came down the trail between him and I. Naturally he ghosted, a few does ran out the far side and I gave up. I decided to drop down under cover of their commotion, hit the bottom and slowly worked my way up canyon expecting nothing but still moving slow and quiet just in case. Sure enough despite the riders he had kept right along his line and I spotted him in the bottom. I was able to connect a shot at 33 and had him out in a few hours. beat the heck out of packing an elk out! looks like it wont let me upload a file. I'll try to get a pic in a follow up

Don't overcook!!!! Wrapped in thin bacon (cheap bacon) and grilled hot and fast = cooked bacon and medium rare dove. Tastes like filet mignon. Filet breast meat off the bone. Marinade in olive oil, worcestershire and montreal steak seasoning. Refrigerate 1-4 hours. While meat is still cold (important as this helps keep it from overcooking) wrap in cheap bacon pulling bacon thinner as you wrap. Heat grill very hot before putting dove on grill - cook just long enough to cook bacon. Pull off and let rest in foil for 5 min

I was in 4a over the weekend, Thurs and Fri not a single bugle. Sat and Sun only bugles were while we were getting ready for the day at 330am. Hopefully picks up for next weekend and rest of hunt with the cooler temps and full moon moving on.

I've sent a couple of emails on observations the last couple of years on elk, deer herds and habitat (roads that have been 'opened' by recreational users over the years that have just become a normal road now that are killing great habitat in one particular until that I have hunted for 35 years now and have seen it change for the worse. I have received 0 response. If they are listening to their biologists, I would be shocked too. I think they also have forgotten where babies come from...
