Here is the rest of the story yesterday Lance Jim and myself worked our way into an area that we can glass. Lance glasses 2 bulls early in the morning at a mile away we looked around the other area and could not find any other bulls that were worth pursuing. Lance made the call that we were going to make our move to a bench that we thought if we could get to we can make a shot. As we are approaching the area we got to about 1500 yards and started the glass and I was able to pick up one of the two bulls that we spotted earlier this morning he was a nice main framed 6 x 6 but had been broken off between his fifth and six point a definite shooter for this time of year just about at that time we starting to see more elk come into the same canyon where we recently saw the two bulls. At this point Lance said it’s time to make out move and get to that next bench we proceeded to get into position on the next bench when Jim my guide spotted a huge bull coming over the ridge. He radioed into us “guys I just spotted a monster bull coming over the top of the ridge bigger than anything we’ve seen” at that point we worked in to the ridge. Suddenly we heard a huge bugle shortly there after Lance picked up cows moving through the timber. After then hunt Lance mentioned after the bugle he knew we were in the middle of the elk because we had a bugle the right and cows to our left. At that point Lance got me into position on the shooting sticks and we watched cows pass through shortly there after Lance says there’s a bull get ready. I’m in my shooting lane, my crosshairs on the bull and Lance says don’t you shoot. I was thinking in the back of my mind that was a good 5 x 5 that we just let walk away. Lance said to me “Tim there’s bigger bulls in here “, at that point we move down the ridge and Lance to stops and says “there’s of shooter bull right there behind a pine tree “. He was in the thick pine looking at us. At that point I turned the scope up to 15 power and started looking for holes in the trees. I was able to find one lane on the bull he stepped out in a small hole. I had a shot Lance stopped the bull and BOOM! I made the shot. I want to thank Lance, Jim, Weston and all of the Timberland Outfitters crew for an amazing hunt and a bull of a lifetime

Hopefully you spared him... I saw numerous gophers killed in the neighborhood this past spring by all the snake haters down my road ... I had an honest 5 footer show up at a family party , had men saying" that thing will mess you up". I picked it p and slid it over the fence into the wash to continue eating the dang ground squirrels that keep ruining my so called landscape. Rattlers. however, get to meet Mr. Shovel.

I was was able to connect on a nice buck the last day of the Nov. hunt. The best part was having my son w me behind the glass giving a play by play of were the buck was as I was getting ready for the shot and after the shot. He even helped pack out two quarters.

The does we glassed were bedded just a few hundred yards from water. We're going to hit that area first thing in the morning again as my go-to may be out of reach due to the heat for the next few days that we have left. I was having a good time tossing old deer crap at my kid while glassing. Win-win for me... not so much for him probably.

Well, one of the murderers was eligible for Parole and today was the hearing. Pretty rough day reliving the events with the board. Scumbag did himself no favors arguing with the Parole board members. Parole denied. No more Parole options supposedly. Will be released in 2030. Must say the Parole board members were amazing and really well prepared. Major kudos to all five of them and the staff. Thank you, Parole board members. You were impressive. Also, huge appreciation to the former prosecutor in this case now in private practice. He spent his time today after a few decades in law in his first ever Parole hearing. He has followed this case through even though he left the prosecutors office years ago. His testimony/comments today were powerful in helping to ensure Parole was denied. Thank you, Mr. Campion.

I’ve got the same hunt and I’m located in the Safford area. I have the same ammo except for in 3 inch that I could spare a few rounds of if you can’t find anything else

I like to use 5 or 6 shot in 3.5”. The pic of the Winchester will do just fine.

Jensen’s turned into 2nd amendment sports. I believe it was the place just down the street that had the issues with the guns.

If it is shooting well, and you have had good luck with it, why change? If it ain't broke, don't fix it. You will read about failures with any bullet you can think of. In all honesty, bullet failures are a rare percentage. And probably 90% of the "failures" are shooter failure rather than bullet failure. Also, right now, with the scarcity of primers, powder, and some bullets, be conservative with your supplies.

Yes and my apologies for no update until now. The short version: Bupkis with the weather and elk activity both being bad. Thu./Fri./Sat. a.m/ was mild but crazy windy. Sat. p.m. and after was cold, windy and snowy and not a good time to be tent camping in spite of having a Kodiak and a Mr. Buddy. No elk activity to be seen. I did hear elk a couple nights and saw fresh scat. I ran into 3 others hunters while there and they said the same thing. I came back early since it was so bad. I will be back out there later this month to try again. On an unrelated note: no more solo hunts after this one is over. # 1 reason is boredom hands down. I will update this thread after my next hunt (probably the end of this month). Eddie

It seems that maybe you aren’t familiar with how the habitat dollars are used. Each year AZGFD authorizes the sale of 3 special commissioner tags for each species to raise money for the Habitat Partnership Fund. The dollars raised from those have to be used for habitat enhancement which includes water hauling. The HPC fund annually raises about $2.5m. Those funds are available to wildlife organizations for projects. But AZGFD cannot use those dollars for their own projects or personnel. A water hauling project requires a few resources; vehicles, water, trailers, labor, pumps, etc. So when AES or AMDO takes these on, if they can get more of those resources donated the further those dollars go. When you or I can contribute a trailer, truck, fuel, etc and pair that with a coordinated effort from an organization who identifies where the need is (which tanks are empty) and that makes a really successful effort that maximizes the use of those dollars that sportsmen have contributed. To make this work it takes everyone contributing and pulling together. No one organization, department or group can do this alone. Conservation takes everyone doing what they can and no one can absolve themselves of responsibility based on what they view as another’s responsibility.

You can add yakers/paddle boorders to the list now. They spend more time blocking the ramp unloading and loading and yaking than they do paddling. 😷
