To all the archery "hunters" in 24A (Pinal Mt Area)
BowNut replied to whiteeye's topic in Bowhunting for Coues Deer
In the Pinals! That's how most guys hunt there. LoL -
Mormon Lake has rental cabins. Last time we looked the prices didn't seem to bad.

During the regular draw it was the same way. Said pending but had the hunt number.

I have a September bull tag in there also. It's a first for me hunting there also. I have hunted 7 west some but not east. I was up there a few weeks ago just getting the lay if the land. Headed back next Monday and Tuesday if you want me to check your cams for ya! LoL

Was excited for my wife's first archery elk hunt in 7E...
BowNut replied to Aimsmall's topic in Elk Hunting
Any hunt is worth the time and effort. Hit it hard and have fun that's what it's about. -
Im hunting there also. I will try not to chase them all off in September. It's a new unit for me also. Everything I have seen says scouting is a must. Boots on the ground my kind of hunt can't wait!

Same tag here. Congrats. Guess I will be doing a lot of scouting learning a new unit.

It's on Coues whitetail Facebook page.

There are some good deer in there. I Agree your probably going to need to hike in some. There are a lot of hunts and tags between Coues and Mule deer before your hunt. I was able to take this buck this second day of the October hunt. After the first day of learning where it seemed Everyone else was hunting I moved areas and hiked to where I thought they wouldn't be. And it worked out great. Good Luck on your hunt.

I use a back tension for everything. And the same one for years. Blank bail with your eyes closed over and over to build the muscle memory for shooting a back tension. Shoot until you no longer need to think about the release at all. Aim Aim Aim When the time comes it will go off and fly true. And if need be you can MAKE it go off. Not recommended but it can be done.

People suck!

Better then the last 2 years. But 2012 was the best. At least where I have been hunting.

Need to change the title. They are not hunters. Definitely call it in they need to be reported.

Carrying Extra Rounds in the Field
BowNut replied to firstcoueswas80's topic in Rifle hunting for Coues Deer
I keep the magazine full 4 and I also have the shell holder on the stock that hold 5 or 6. Then a few in my pack just in case those come up missing. Note I have never had to go to any back up ammo. Knock on wood! -
My first elk I was able to let it hang in a cooler not far from where I got it so was able to come home for a few day. My plan was to stop in Payson on my way back up and buy a bigger cooler. Well as my luck goes they where out! So I ended up just buying a giant storage tote with wheels. Few bags of ice on the bottom meat then a few bags on top and headed back to the valley. Worked great. Now I use the tote to take stuff up and always have it for a back up if my cooler can't be used.

Ok my sierra book is older but for Varget powder it shows 40.2 as starting point and 42.2gr as the max load for 168gr bullet. Then I was messing around on the Hodgdon site and Varget starts at 42gr and 46gr for a max load. This seems to be a huge difference. I have seen data very a grain or so but never this much. Not sure which to go by now the bullet manufacture or the powder?

Difference in load data for .308 win.

Sorry for being slow at responding. Just got to Vegas with the wife. Don't have the Sierra load data but this is from the powder manufacturer. My sierra manual is the 50th year addition. Thanks for the replies guys. Learning a lot. -
