Would you trade for any of the stuff i have listed in my other post for an elk rifle?

    Mossberg (Howa) 1500, .308

Would you trade for anything I have in my other post about trading for an elk rifle?
  4. The new knives I'm working on this weekend are alot more refined. These were made rough intentionally to look aged and weathered. I can make slick sided knives, leave them half rough/ "primitive", or aged like these.
  5. If anyone is interested in more blacksmithing, I have a Facebook page under "Broken Anvil Forge" Here are some older knives I made. Some I still have and would sell, just ask. I have several in various stages of assembly and should be able to post more pics after the weekend. I'll start a new thread for them when I get them up. The first was one a reenactor buddy ordered out of an old horse rasp. This is another old style knife a reenactor ordered in a fur trade era style but never paid for. For Sale Basic filework on the spine Old knife from early when i started bladesmithing. Definitely not my best work, but some people like this style. haha Has vine and thorn detail on the spine For Sale I do custom blacksmithing work as well. Here are a few. The first is a steak turner with a vine and leaf hanger detail and the second is a moravian heart candle holder. For Sale and sold, but I can make as many as you would like.
  6. Also willing to trade for a good shock collar for part plus cash or full depending on the value. I've got a dog that's really feeling his oats right now and needs to get his butt jerked from a distance while we're training!
  7. Too true! I used to fish competitively during my undergrad at Murray State. Thought I would bring my fishing stuff out here in case I needed it and AZGFD talks up the urban lakes program, but after a few attempts at subsistence fishing out of those things now I have about "I don't want to think about it" worth of equipment sitting in a closet most of the time! haha
  8. Thanks first coues, I'll keep that in mind. Hopefully I can trade someone out of one/sell enough stuff/make and sell enough knives, to afford one before summer hits so I can take it back to Kentucky with me while it's ridiculously hot out here! haha
  9. I'm a first time elk hunter and got drawn for a late season Unit 23 hunt this year. I grew up in Kentucky whitetail hunting but it's a completely different ballgame back home. There we generally have to keep the deer out of our fruit trees and backyard, but here I've barely seen enough to constitute a small herd! Does anyone have any pointers on how to start scouting this huge area and what kind of preparations I need to start looking into well before season. I'm a student so guides are probably a no go because of funding, and I'm a subsistence hunter as well so kind of defeats the purpose if I pay a few thousand to get the meat. I've never done this type of pack in hunting before and it looks like I'll probably be back country camping for the short season since I live in Tucson and commuting is just stupid at that range. Any and all pointers are appreciated!

Getting started elk hunting with Unit 23

Thanks so much guys! I'm trying to find some other people to possibly hunt with or get my brother/dad to come out and hunt with me.
  13. Absolutely right hoghuntr! It's one of the real nice carved Remingtons and was my first deer gun so I definitely don't want to drop it down a canyon out here. Plus, the semi autos are generally not accurate enough out past 350 yards.
  14. Alright folks. I was drawn for a rifle bull elk tag but the semiauto 30-06 I grew up with is not coming to cactus country, and I'm a student so buying a new gun outright just isn't in the budget, so it's time to unload some stuff to find a good long range bolt action gun. Here's what I've got Customized Fender Stratocaster with hardshell case and custom SRV strap. This was my baby but I've gone a new direction and she doesn't get played enough. Custom tuning machines, Texas Special pickups, "skunk stripe" neck, rosewood fretboard, custom tuning knobs. This thing is loaded and is a great guitar. Has a few minor road dings from touring, but you could plug it in and rock the house tonight if you wanted to. Looking for $400 obo/trade. Second, I have a full scuba set. 7mm + 5mm Oneil full wetsuit with hood size XL, Riptide Zone 2 BCD L/XL with regulator restraint and gear keeper, 5 mm Oneil boots and gloves, Beauchat fins, and SeaDive mask and snorkel with XS Scuba gear bag. All were top of the line. All have been used for pool training and certification dives in fresh water only. Unfortunately the guys I was diving with quit soon after, so these have only been used basically 3 days. All are about 4 years old and have been conditioned annually. I had close to a grand in this equipment but I'll let them go for $ 500 obo/trade. All you need is regs, a tank, and a computer to dive tomorrow with this equipment. Finally, I have a set of size 13D JB Dillon cowboy boots. They are carved and stamped goat. Really nice boots, I was just given a pair that fit me better. I think I wore them maybe 4 or 5 times. I paid 300 for them. I'll sell them for $225 -250 obo/trade I'm looking for a 7mm mag or possibly .300 wmag bolt action gun. Also looking for some good glass for elk season/scouting. Let me know if you have something you want to trade or if you want to buy! Help me get in the field with the right equipment for my first elk hunt this fall! Thanks guys.

Is anyone else hunting this unit in the late season hunt?

    Any buck knife collectors

It looks like a pre 1984 Buck 703 Colt. If it had the blades etched it's called an Aurum Etch model. The etched ones go for around 80-90 with presentation cases. MIB for the series you have could be at around 60 to the right collector but realistically about 40-50. The gothic print ones are a bit rarer than the block print, which started after 1984. Whatever you do, I probably wouldn't carry that one because they had trouble with the tempering on the back springs and some tend to break over time.

Getting started elk hunting with Unit 23

I got a general tag for the late season. Nov-Dec. I hunt with both but I'll be definitely using a rifle so I can have a better chance of taking one.

Getting started elk hunting with Unit 23

Haha I'l probably start going up on weekends to get the lay of the land soon. I'm heading back to Kentucky for a month or two this summer when it's a bazillion degrees out here. Blacksmithing in the summer here sucks! Thanks for the info guys. I've heard the late rifle season in 23 is good, so in other words popular. I'm probably going to try to "get lost" somewhere a ways off the road and away from the crowd. AverageJoe, if you go into the hunt not expecting to get one, how will you get one? Think positive man! haha
