    Albies in the house

They officially caught the 1st Albie on the Aztec today. Don't know how far out they were. Lots of people seem to think it's great and while I don't care to eat em, they are fun to catch.

    A thank you to AZGFD

Just a quick thank you to GnF for allowing me to maintain my lifetime safety issue/negetavie interactions related to game cameras in the field at zero with the recent trail camera ban. I'd hate to have ruined my lifetime record of zero issues with a negative interaction. I would also like to let them know of a negative consequence directly related to the camera ban. A drinker that is typically heavily used by bears, elk, Mulies, WT, bobcats and a host of other critters was dry all summer. (I'm saying "all summer" because only a single squirrel hit the tank in a period of 3 days. I have had a camera on this tank for the last 4 years and check it every spring and summer and have made repairs to this tank in the past when I found problems. As I had no reason to set a camera this year, the broken pipe was not discovered until the fall hunt. I went up to sit my favorite tank for bear and found the holding tank empty due to a break in the supply line from the holding tank to the drinker. After the usual cleaning of the catchment filter screen, removing a ton of pine needles and a crappy band-aid fix to the pipe and a perfectly timed downpour that same afternoon, the holding tank gained over 2" of water and the drinker was full. I'll return at some point with tools and supplies to make the repair permanent. I doubt the camera ban was intended to remove a water source for wildlife but in this case, that was the effect of the ban so 👍.

Stupid comment but hey, I'll take the blame for not checking it but if that's the way it works, NOBODY else found and repaired it either. I'll also take credit for the repairs I made in the past which resulted in hundreds of visits by animals for a drink of water. Hey Stanley.. delete my account please.. Thanks.

You are correct. I certainly could have gone up to see if the tank was holding water.. However, the fact of the matter is, me being able to place a camera would have resulted in me finding the problem. I didn't go because of the ban so the problem wasn't discovered.

Neither... The repair is simple but not with what I take hunting and I'm sure many do similar repairs as well. The 300 mile round trip and trek down a messed up road is OK too. The point of the thread is to point out the unintended consequence of having a wildlife water tank going dry for the summer as a result of the camera ban. And, luckily I didn't get into a heated, life threatening debate with someone while at the drinker.

Deep Sea Fishing Out of San Diego

Returned this morning from our annual 1.5 day on the Pacifica with almost a limit of BF. Mixed bag of 25-70. We had to choose between going south for Dodo's, YF and BF, which have been hit or miss, or going NW for BF only. We chose BF only. Weather was great and before Noon was maybe too nice. No luck at 5AM on jigs but the jigs and sinker rigs were picking off a fish or 2 on in the 30-70 range beginning at daybreak and throughout the day.. Lots of nada stops. About 3:30 we moved off the bigger fish to go find catchable fish. (About a 30 minute move) The 1st stop lasted about 2 hours with up to 10 rods bent at once using both flyline and sinker rigs. Smaller grade but lots of fun. They would not touch 40# line so 30# line on the spinner was the weapon of choice. That baitrunner reel screaming when they first hit it is still a rush. Made a few stops in the dark and 2 of them produced 2 fish each in the 60-70# range from 300-400'. Fish up to 200 are there, we just didn't find any that wanted to play. A big Mako came to collect some taxes but left shortly after taking the tail off of one nice fish.. (Tuna come to the boat so much easier when they have no tail)

    New National Monument in Arizona

Yes, yes he did... "The Grand Canyon - one of the Earths 9 wonders..." Corrected a few minutes later.. Undoubtedly told in his ear or on a prompter..

Wow. Maybe I need to try some new recipes. However, if they really show up and I happen to bring a bunch home, I'd gladly swap someone for BF..

    40/50# rod suggestions

When the world was out of everything and I wanted the Carnage II jigging rods, none existed anywhere so I ended up with the cheaper Rampage rods. I actually kind of like the action on the "5'-8" 80-130 braid" on the 50# class fish as the leverage the fish has is limited by the shorter rod but this is the rod I had a 100#+ BF on and it ran out of backbone and I ended up losing a multi hour fight with him due to being cut off with another line. Not blaming the rod so much as just being undergunned on that fish. The only real downside to the short jigging rods is getting over guys on the rail and the absolute worst part is getting around the anchor gear on the bow if you are on the cattle boats. I had a crew hand with me on this fish and he was jumping up on the bow to get the line around the bow.. All 17 times.. I wouldn't hesitate for a second to take a shorter jigging rod on a 6 pack but mine now sit at home as I fish on the cattle boats. As for Acid wrapped rods, for jigging and sinker rigs I think it's genius but I have never actually fished with one.. Yet...

    Fishing in Parker

Sorry but don't know of a guide or much of the fishing there except that a buddy slays some monster smallies below the dam. Don Martin may be a guy to check with as it's kind of his end of the state. If you are a golfer however, I would recommend a round at Emerald Canyon as it's a beautiful course. (Or was a few years ago)

Could explain both why Jennifer actually photographed all my documents when I met her out in the middle of nowhere and why I haven't seen a decent buck in yrs out there.

Purple stripes on trees - No Trespassing

Is some states, chances are good that you wouldn't make it to a court room. (Insert banjo music) I spent a few years in Arkansas and purple paint on trees is a reality.

Deep Sea Fishing Out of San Diego

IF this is your first tuna trip, my advice is, don't go... Unless you are prepared to spend a silly amount of money in the future for 4-6 complete rigs, spools of every size braid and fluoro known to man and a big bag full of lead jigs in the event you get hooked. Which if you get into fish, and don't get seasick, odds are you will be hooked. Can't wait for the big boys to arrive, if they do at all. Good luck and have fun.

Deep Sea Fishing Out of San Diego

Spinners are great and have a place! Until you hook a bigger than expected fish and have to fight it for an hour. Then you will be wishing you could lay it on the rail. YF footballs and Dodos are a blast on spinners.

    Battery PSA/Question

It's that time of year for boating so you are buying new boat/RV/Car batteries any time soon..... Last week, I purchased a couple of batteries from BPS and when I took the 2 cores back I got an interesting story. She said the extra 6% tax, which I never even noticed until she was explaining all of this, was an Arizona Battery tax and they forgot to charge me a "core" charge so I wouldn't get anything back. So over 14% tax on the batteries. BPS didn't have the 3rd battery that I needed so I bought it from Autozone and was only charged the normal taxes. I called a few other stores and inquired about this tax and nobody else has heard of this. So it could be worth a little research before buying batteries from BPS.. May be common knowledge but it was news to me.

    Any Alamo reports?

No crappie seen and we had minnows out most of the time as well. Yesterday there were only 5 boats at ramp lot. Only the high-water ramp is open and parking is ultra limited. I suspect they will close the lake to everyone except people staying here like they did several years back until they can open cholla. Hopefully it settles down by next week..

Pics from yesterday. Water temps between 58 and 65 depending on location.

    Any Alamo reports?

Been here 3 days and 0 fish. Wind changed last night so now there is a 200 yard deep log jam before the cliffs so you can't get up there. Chocolate milk and logs everywhere thanks to the shifting winds.
