    Drones for locating downed/lost game

I'll save ya the attorneys fees. According to F&G, it's illegal to attach a tracking device to an animal.

    Drones for locating downed/lost game

The technology has existed for many years in the form of the Tomahawk cruise missile. True, but even for the $1,000,000.00/pop, Amazon won't deliver those to your doorstep.. I like the $1,000.00 toy delivered to my door and the free download option better.

    Drones for locating downed/lost game

Still thinking.. Scenario. Hunter shoots elk. Has GPS coordinates of initial hit, last sighting or last blood, call G&F and they have an employee, contractor or authorized volunteer pull it up on Google Earth. They then spend 5 minutes in a program to lay out a search grid including paying special attention to culverts, washes, rock piles or any other odd feature. Email program back to drone operator, launch drone and initialize program.. It could in reality all happen in less than 10 minutes. The drone then only flies that pattern, can be put on "pause" if something interesting is viewed and of course, the video can be reviewed at night and if something is seen, the GPS coordinates are right there for follow up on foot. If the animal is found, go to manual mode or just return to home. Since the flight of the drone is recorded, it can be verified that the drone didn't go peeping into windows at the ranch on the adjoining property. I realize this will NEVER happen but the software exists and would be easy to do. Just ask the 6th grader down the street. They are already doing it.

    Mount Hanging Tips?

Please do not risk that mount or anything below it on drywall alone!!! If you have the skills to kill an animal like that, you should have the creativity and smarts to get it to hang securely on a wall.. Let the singing bass fall off the wall, not that mount.

    Taking a Knee...

If the players want to protest, do it on their own time. I didn't tune in to see their political or ideological views. If I want that, I'll tune in to TMZ, the View or some other useless show that discusses the stupidity of people. Overall it wasn't a big deal to me but when the staduim announcer asked the crowd to join arms with each other to show unity, THAT was WAY over the line.. The people that paid good money have to not only watch that crap but join in???? F*#@ that!!!! And I'll stop it here before I get banned...

    Bear location question

Thank you! I guess I have a bear to go find in a few weeks.. Last time I was 20 yards from him and I knew the season dates were open but I hadn't checked the hotline. I was so worried that he was still legal and I'd never get a good nights rest again knowing I let him walk away from a shot that I will probably never get again. I was relieved to find out that the season closed due to quotas just three days prior.. So, more time in the field again for me.

    It is reality....Bass Pro/Cabelas

Old news.. They have been working the deal for quite some time now. Regulators just finally gave them the thumbs up.

    Drones for locating downed/lost game

Yes, that thread is pretty entertaining. The whole drone issue is topic that seems to be somewhat polarizing. Maybe we should all lock arms in solidarity. But wait, that's a different thread. What brought this to mind was I was looking at a GPS track on a map of someone tracking/searching for a lost elk. In the terrain they were in, the tracks that took them 6 hours to walk could be covered in less than 1 hour and the "thickets" that they still wondered about could be easily viewed from above. In this case, not using the drone for scouting, hunting or harassing but to aid in the recovery of a big game animal just makes sense to me... But then, I also don't drive down closed roads in the forest. Silly me. As far as being able to see an animal from a drone, depending on the terrain of course, an elk tends to stand out like a big, fat sore thumb. It was just a thought....

    Road Closures

C'mon... What's the big deal???? Just because you wake up an hour earlier then them, hike a mile up a mountain in the cold and dark to get to a good spot that you have scouted prior to the season only to have them drive right in on you and scare off the game doesn't make them rude, illiterate, stupid, ignorant or general douche bags.. Oh wait... never mind...

National Forest travel maps-what am I missing?

Sucks when you play by the rules only to get screwed. Sounds like there are two camps here.. One that gets mad that they try to close a road, disregard the rules and drive down any road they find and the other that gets mad at camp 1 for doing it while following the rules. Sad but seems pretty clear that if they want to actually close roads, cables and chains are the only solution.. At least the people driving around a chain can't play stupid. And no doubt, some will do it anyway.

    Shot Placement Review

I've shot at many elk in Cabelas and have yet to get a decent blood trail from a single one of em.. Stupid things just won't go down!!

    Loren McReynolds Goes Down

Who said it took them over 4 years to get enough evidence to press charges?? They could have been doing other investigations that may include him or other people he knows and didn't want to jeopardize those. As long as they file them before the statute of limitations expire, they are good.

  14. Worst case, strip em. Still a great rack.

    Garmin GPSmap 64

Keep it in your pack.. You may only need it 1 time.. If so, you will be very glad you had it instead of 200.00! Just my .02

What to do after snake bite?

Don't ever look through the book, Snake Venom Poisoning if you don't want to be freaked out.. I love snakes, even rattlesnakes but snake venom can do some seriously demonic damage to the body.

    Watch where you're stepping..

The only thing that came into my water tank I was sitting Thursday evening was a diamondback. Kinda cool as he crawled around the edge then coiled up in a depression about 12" from the waters edge and sat there till dark. Then I almost stepped on a different one walking back to my quad in the dark.. The big one I couldn't even get to rattle on video.. He just crawled off.

    7W Fire

Screwed up my plans.. This is going to be fun. I guess the road hunting everywhere else around there is going to be even worse than usual. If that's even possible. I quit hunting in 7E because it was almost bumper to bumper traffic at 4 mph.. With bows in hand..

    San Diego fish markets?

It all depends on what type of fish you want.. Rock fish and yellowtail for 10-12/lb.. Nice yellowfin tuna, plan on 25+/lb..

    Video Editing

Corel Video studio has a 30 day free trial. No credit card needed. Download it and it's fine. I believe it's a fully functional version and no stamps on the vids. If you don't like it, the program "self destructs" in 30 days.. simple. http://www.videostudiopro.com/en/free-trials/

    Stolen...

They do. It's a goofy deal though. Apply for the archery strip hunt in 13B using the normal hunt # but add "-1AB" at the end. Bag limit of 3 and either sex. Easy tag to fill.

    Good hiking

Yep... stop at 2 along the creek to camp, then do a hike to the tanks I suppose if you are taking scouts into the area, it is only fair to mention it has a sad history with scouts. It's not good and pretty much why it's still only a walk in trail. Probably best if the Moms don't know about it. Very pretty and used to be a popular place to go. What happened A couple of scouts and a leader died in a flood about 15 years ago.
