    Leftover tag question

If you can, go check your emails for an email from G&F several months ago. There was a link in it that will take you to the new one they created for you. (Not sure how long they allow that link to remain active though)

    Updates on Outdoor Writer ???

This thread can make you feel like you're up at hunting camp after a long day's hunt, talking sheit around the....... Well, there ya go... After all, it's not the "scone slicing, pinky raising tea party" thread...

    G&F actions today "disenfranchised" many

Well that's cool. I always thought you lost the Loyalty BP when you drew a tag. Very good to know..

    G&F actions today "disenfranchised" many

In this scenario, how would the guy with 0 BPs have a loyalty point? Without it, I don't see how you get to 12.

    ITS ON!!!!!!

I'm definitely going elk hunting, just not to fill my tag. I just think it's so funny that even when the draw finally begins, it's not good enough for some people. Almost as bad as the people that injure a shoulder and THEN go before the commission to try to be allowed to buy point guard a week before the hunt. Congrats to all who drew.

    ITS ON!!!!!!

This is 2021, the second someone is drawn, G&F should be able to send someone to the address listed on the app, ask them to update their CC info if needed, perhaps drive them to the bank if needed, process the card, throw them a little party and do a happy dance for the successful draw, go to vehicle, print out the tag, walk back up to them, hand it to them and then provide a map or GPS for tracking collars on the biggest animal in that unit. Maybe then everyone would be happy.

    TRAIL CAM BAN UPDATE 3/17/21

That will probably cause more conflicts having people tear down legally placed cams. Having a a bunch of "ifs or exceptions" in the mix will be a disaster. They have enough problems educating people and enforcing rules that are 100% clear.

I heard the hits are coming.

Iv'e dealt with Amber two times. Both times she was a pleasure to deal with. But that may not mean much coming from me, a G&F defender. lol

    TRAIL CAM BAN UPDATE 3/17/21

For a flashback. 1:45:05 is Sparks' comments on the issue of "fair chase" (I know a member here called him a flat out liar and said that he never spoke with BnC or PnY on this issue.) No comment either way on that but here is what he said.

    LakeVu g3 / g3 Ultra questions

So at Rosey with the standard LakeVu g3 maps, the actual water level is about 30' above what is shown on the maps. i.e. 5' depth on the topo map is currently 35' deep. (g3 does not do dynamic lake leveling but Ultra does). I'm wondering if they incorporated land topo maps above what they show as lake level and/or can you adjust the water level dynamically to levels above normal in the Ultra version? I know depth shading on the g3 won't allow a negative depth number. And also for anyone with the Ultra, does it show any more topo info of the lake above Schoolhouse? From about the buoys up, g3 shows nothing and that's a lot of stuff to try and map.

    What are these?

So I guess I need to confirm this. Aren't these crappie?? I have found them a few times in the same place but can't get a single one to bite on a spoon, grub, roadrunner, small cranks or even live minnows. At Rosey in 15-20' Any suggestions? Thanks, from the worst crappie fisherman ever.

    What are these?

That was my 2nd guess but I've never seen them stack like that. Just after the 2nd time finding them without a bite, it got me wondering.. Good luck on both.

Game and fish finally does something right. Good job

I was just making a point. Thanks for playing.

The draw was completed 2 weeks ago. A 3rd party CC processing company screwed the pooch forcing a delay in CC hits and in turn either to be fair to customers or by mandate, GnF extended the CC update deadline. GnF didn't screw anything up other than the portal info which they have already said has nothing to do with the draw.

Take a break from the drawma

.... and go fishing with the girls..
  18. Things that make you go hummm.... Can animals see the solid color or ?? Always wondered about it. It was over 10 years ago and I have no clue if any of my current camo looks like this with the IR light. Anyone else notice this?
  19. Ohthatguy

Camo under IR light is solid white

    How would that work?

Camo under IR light is solid white

galiuro mountain man, you sir, are spot on. It was a thin summer shirt and would guess it was polyester or some type of poly blend. By contrast, cotton and polyester transmit between 30 and 40 percent of visible light, so they are more transparent in the visual range than they are in the infrared. The team says these materials appear opaque because they reflect more light than they transmit and the human eye is only sensitive enough to pick up the reflected light. (Indeed, it is usually easy to see through these materials if you hold them up to your eyes.) Second, the fibers themselves are about the same size as the wavelength of infrared light and so scatter it effectively. This makes the materials reflect infrared light strongly. That’s why these materials often appear white in infrared images. Me too!! How crazy is that?? It's been over 10 long years of sleepless nights for me because of it. At least now we know why it appears white. Now if we only knew if critters could see it in daylight conditions as well, maybe we could finally get a good nights rest. I mean, it would be funny as hello if we were sneaking around in specialty camouflaged outfits and the animals actually see a solid white sheet creeping through the trees. Maybe my stalking skills really aren't that bad after all.

    A bunch of BS!

I was curious about it too... If the average person has fraud, lost card or any reason to cancel a card once every 5 years, then it's once in 1825 days per cardholder. 170,000 cardholders should have about 93 cancelled cards per day. Multiply by say, 14 days, is about 1302 card issues. Now adjust for multiple apps on one card, variable timeframe of card issues blah blah blah and it could be much lower. (10 years between issues and an average of 2 apps on each card would get it down to 300ish) If they wanted to, they could always do an additional draw for those people that did have card issues. It's been done before.

    Roosevelt report

Brother and I boated close to 30 on Sunday. Nothing over 2.5lbs. Started at the mouth of the Salt and worked up. Several tourney boats went way up. Nothing at all on topwater. All spinners and swimbaits worked but low and slow. Very slow or even dragging bottom. They were not "slamming" anything. Almost a finesse bite on a swimbait. Seemed odd but it worked. People trolling main channel were doing well too. Only heard of 1 crappie being caught. Buddy was at Alamo and same thing. Tons of little ones.

    Drone usage for exploring/scouting??

For the "Guide haters" out there. There is an interesting, likely meaningless little hurdle in their use of drones. For starters, they are already using them and have been for years. There is a Federal rule that if you fly for ANY compensation, you are required to obtain your FAA Part 107 License. (The FAA even consider a single monetized video on YouTube as compensation and have made people remove videos until they obtain the license) It's not a hard license to get but takes time, money and a test so it's just another hoop to jump through to be technically "legal". Now... Will guides do it? probably not Will they get in trouble for not getting a license and using a drone? probably not Would it be hard to prove that his flying is directly related to being paid by someone? Yep... But, since wildlife crimes seem to be so freaking difficult to prosecute effectively, maybe another little tool in the toolbox will help. Especially if that tool has the potential to be wielded by the Feds.. So the point is..... I'm bored...

    Drone usage for exploring/scouting??

Lol. Bad analogy but you can't destroy someone's property just because its annoying. The laws and legalities regarding drones and public airspace, private property, privacy and safety issues make the whole trail cam debate look like childs play.

    Drone usage for exploring/scouting??

Nah, unless we get another 4" of rain, it's not looking like that again....
