It's a great idea however may I suggest donating some of the camping gear you have to Arizona Outdoor Adventures. I donated some cast iron Dutch ovens, some fishing supplies, float tubes, some tents and a few other outdoor camping supplies to them. I truly believe in what Dan Priest is doing for those kids at Arizona Outdoor Adventures.
Yes. Agreed. Dan and Joanne are great people. I've donated a bunch of fishing gear to them, knowing it's going to the right place.

I also received mine yesterday. I thought the same exact thing....I have fleece sweatshirts that are thicker and half the price (at the $99 price). Seems to be very lightweight, but warm so far. I'm heading to Seattle next week and planning on bringing it to wear. I imagine that will give me a good idea with the wind and rain. But from the first look, glad I paid $99 rather than $400. Doesn't seem like a $400 jacket.

Agreed. Rosy has really gone downhill. I used to love launching the boat at Schoolhouse and flipping the trees back in the sticks. But that was 6-7 years ago and the ramp has been out of the water for a while. It seems like a good 5 fish bag there is maybe 12 pounds. Sure, there's still the 6# bass still swimming around, but they seem so far and few between. Now a days, I just head to Apache. Much better fishing anyways.

That's really the only way I like to do the T-day bird. Here's what I like to do on my Weber Smokey Mtn 22.5":
Brine a 15# bird in a small/medium size cooler overnight. Water, 10# bag of ice, salt, brown sugar, cut up citrus, fresh thyme.
Day of....fire up my smoker using the minion method with Kingsford blue bag and a few chunks of cherry wood. Get it to 300* - 325* and prep the bird
Take bird out of the brine. Dry thoroughly and rub it down with either olive oil or butter. Liberally apply the rub of your choice. Put a few chunks of orange/lemon in the cavity of the bird.
Put the bird on the smoker for 2.5 hours, then check the temp of the bird. Pull it when it gets to 160ish*
Loosely wrap bird in foil, but back in a dry cooler to rest. Let rest for 30-45 min. After resting, carve the bird and enjoy.
I'll be doing 2 birds this year, one on the smoker, one spatchcock in the oven.

Not necessarily hunting.....but at every bass tourney, it seems there's always a guy talking about dumping an 8 right at the boat with about 5 min to go until check-in. Almost died laughing when I heard that at some charity tournament at Bartlett a few years back.

Heading out east of the valley on Saturday morning. I've been out once this year and scratched out 3 birds, then was out of town. So, really looking forward to getting out there for a while.

If you haven't checked out Hank Shaw's website on wild game cooking....he has a great dove enchilada recipe. It's simple and turned out really good when I made it a few weeks ago.

Similar situation happened up in Unit 8 last weekend.
I was scouting Friday, Sat and Sunday up in 8. Ended up chatting with a game warden for about 15 min off of FR105. He gave me some pointers on areas where to start. At the end of the conversation, he told me to keep an eye out for a grey Nissan Frontier. Apparently, the two guys driving the Nissan shot a mule deer out of season. They had a WT tag and informed some other hunters about the deer thinking it was a WT. Yikes....
So, I scouted a bit more, then parked and ended up eating some lunch off of FR354. As soon as I finish lunch and was about to head out, here comes a grey Frontier. Ended up calling it in and a warden ended up nabbing them an hour later.
No one should ever be shooting at anything they can't identify properly....

I was referred to Jim Rogers 602-740-7030. He ended up detailing my FJ Cruiser before I sold it. Excellent job, very professional.. Top notch service. Came to the house and detailed my truck in my driveway. It was my hunting truck and had a ton of AZ pinstriping on it. After a few hours on the job, it looked new.

smoke a pork shoulder at home and freeze. easy to heat up pulled pork for sandwiches.
This. Also maybe grill up (or sous vide) some chicken breast, refrigerate and put it in a cooler when you're ready to head out. Then chunk it up and throw it in some ramen that was heated up on a camp stove. Dried soup and noodles work great for me. Lightweight, easy to pack and has some carbs if you're doing some longer hikes.
Breakfasts are usually a clif bar, banana and coffee.
Lunches are pre-made sandwiches (pulled pork or chicken)

I ended up ordering the Vortex Glasspak yesterday. I didn't see too many reviews on it, but figured it's probably better than my cheapie $20 Nikon harness that always bounces up and just about cracks a tooth out.
I plan on testing out the Glasspak on a hunt helping a buddy out in 19A next weekend. Then my mule deer hunt up in 8 at the end of the month. I'll report back.

I bought everything from Amazon. Suction cup mount with X-grip for my phone and a cradle I can switch out for my 60 CSX.
I imagine this one would work well for a utv

Have you looked into Ram Mounts? I used them in my FJ, now in my 4Runner. also have 2 on my bass boat for my graphs. I imagine they would work pretty well in a utv/atv.

Jerky blaster and ground meat jerky mix. Awesome and will tame the gamiest meat. Shot an old cow elk that was almost inedible any other way. She provided awesome jerky that we snacked on every fishing trip, hike, and hunt for a long time. With another elk going in the freezer, transforming some of that ground meat to snacks gives you another use vs. breakfast, lunch and dinner.
Other ideas/uses - I cook up one tube of store bought chorizo with 1 lb ground elk. Season with additional garlic salt, paprika, onion powder, a dash of nutmeg, mace, coriander, and a few healthy dashes of Cholula. Then use with eggs and potatoes to make awesome breakfast burritos. The fat in the store bough plus the lean elk is just about right. No excess grease to drain or leak out everywhere.
+1 meatloaf. Shepard's Pie, Sloppy Joes, Tacos, Green Chile, Red Chile, Tamales are great with ground meat....
+1 on the ground jerky. Used this method with some ground caribou a buddy gave me. Best jerky I've ever had. I still have a few pounds of ground venison from MN in the freezer and am tempted to turn it into jerky. We made some chili with a pound of ground venison it a few weeks ago, turned out very very good.

Thanks. Yeah, was getting warm out by 11. Ended up finding a 2 yr old female red tick that needed a home. She's a great dog.

Got a late start this morning. Arrived at a familiar spot around 7.45 AM. Immediately started to hear birds, busted a covey about 100 yards from the truck, so was off to a nice start with 2 birds. Chased that covey for a bit and they ended up pulling the ole Houdini and disappeared. Hiked for another mile and a half, found another covey. Split that up and picked off a single. That was it for the day. Left around 11 AM with only 3 birds. On the way back to the truck, decided to walk a wash where I've had luck before. About 50 yards from the truck, ran across this interesting hole in the middle of the desert....I've hunted here a bunch, haven't seen it in the past.

Toyota Tacoma Tires- need advice

I was running a 2008 Toyota FJ Cruiser M/T 4x4 before I sold it in November and it had about 95k miles on it. At 30k miles, I ended up putting General Grabber AT2 tires on it. I hunt a ton of quail/ducks in the fall and tow a Champion 181 bass boat just about every weekend to the local lakes. It was my daily driver truck to work, probably did the same 70% pavement 30% off road/towing.
I couldn't be more satisfied with the Grabber AT2. I will more than likely be putting the same tire on my 2016 4runner in the next few weeks. They held up great and had a ton of tread left when I sold my FJ. Tirerack.com has a pretty nice price on them right now. I ran a stock 17" rim on my FJ. When I originally purchased them, I actually bought them from a Chevy dealership out in Mesa who was running a buy 3 get 1 free deal. I think it was just over $800 mounted and balanced.
I figured I'd give my input since the Tacoma and FJ are on very similar chassis, motors, etc.
