Has anybody here ever checked case neck concentricity on the Nosler "fully prepared" cases? Nosler claims they are "ready to load", but the description only mentions the case necks being chamfered and deburred. I have some brass on the way, and I am just wondering if I should be prepared to do some turning.

Some didn't need any correction. The amount would depend on where (how close to the tip) you are measuring, right? I was measuring about 3/4 of the way from the edge of the case neck to the meplat, with a variance of 2 or 3 thousandths in some cases.

I know I started this thread over a year ago, but I have a bit of an update...not about Nosler brass but about what I have since learned about turning case necks. I did end up getting a hand neck turning tool and a concentricity/runout gauge, but to use on the Hornady brass I am currently using to develop an elk load for my 7mm Rem mag. I found that just turning the case necks in and of itself was not particularly beneficial, but in conjunction with checking (and correcting as needed) case neck concentricity before loading, and then bullet run-out after loading, it made quite a noticeable difference, at least in my Savage. In the target below (100 yds), the upper group of five shots (the hole closest to the center of the group was two shots) were five loads with only the necks turned. POA was the black square and POI was intended to be 2-1/2" high (the small squares are 1/2")...not too shabby. For comparison, the lower three shot group were neck turned loads with attention paid to concentricity and run-out. POA was the lower edge center of the grid, again right on the expected 2-1/2" high POI. I had five loaded that way, but I wanted to shoot a couple at 300 yds to see where they impacted, and they were well under MOA (under 2-1/2" apart with a bit of variable wind). Well worth the tedious effort IMO.

I just put three cameras up on Saturday. If you are using them to try to identify, locate, or pattern specific individual animals that you intend to target during a hunt, it is probably pointless to put them up more than a couple of weeks before the hunt. But I personally only use mine for general educational and entertainment purposes, so I may have cameras up any time of the year and may move them around quite a bit.

I agree that blacktails are pretty dang interesting. I "like" tigers, too. I have seen a couple of references to rattlesnake venom toxicity that indicate that the venom of tiger rattlesnakes is among the most toxic, drop for drop, of the rattlesnakes, having both neurotoxic and hemotoxic components. Also that they are not the most "deadly" of the rattlesnakes due to their relative small size and small head relative to body size so they tend not to deliver much venom. I don't know if all that is true. BTW, I am originally from IA as well...SW Iowa. And root beer works for me.

Yeah, the color and pattern variation on those speckleds is pretty wild. And I agree that the pattern on the one in the earlier photo is quite stark. But I just haven't come up with a viable alternative.

Speckled is my story, and I'm stickin' to it! The thing is, there are a finite number of choices, and I've ruled pretty much everything else out. I'm pretty certain it is not a diamondback, black-tail, or mojave. I have seen several tigers in person, it isn't one of those. Check this out: And these:

I see quite a few rattlers, big ones, out where I hunt muleys. I have seen a couple over 5 feet in the last few years. Yes, I measured them, without heads. One was dinner, and the other's hide is backing a friend's selfbow. Otherwise I tend not to kill them, but sometimes torment them with a stick for a bit. A long stick...

Nope, using a scope set on lower power. Yep, lots of palo verde, ironwood, mequite, cholla in flatish to low rolling terrain. Still hunting has worked for me, four of four tags filled since I started hunting the area.

Depends on your definition of "flats". I pretty much exclusively still-hunt mule deer, but the terrain is not always pancake flat. It is flat enough, though, that glassing usually isn't particularly productive. Three of the last four bucks I've killed in the area I currently hunt were shot on the "run", only one was caught unaware and standing still feeding.
