    so mad!!!

Congrats on a great buck!! Good for you for sticking with it and finding your deer. Props to all the folks that helped with your search. I honestly did not think I would be reading this kind of behavior on this forum. For some reason I thought there were better people on here. Don't worry about what some of these people say, you do what feels comfortable to you. I know plenty of guys that would feel more than comfortable with a shot like that. I wouldn't but does that mean I should rip on you for doing it? No it sure does not. Congrats again to you!!! By the way, where are the moderators on this site?

    Son's first deer!!

I have been so busy with hunts lately that I have not had time to post this but my boy has been after me to do it. His name is Braden and he drew his first deer tag this year, a juniors hunt in 27. Here is his story. We started out pretty low and were into deer in twenty minutes or so of the first morning. I had found four mule deer bucks and was trying to show him where they were. It was one of those situations where I could see them but he could not find them. When he finally located them, there was only one left but he was not moving. There was a fence in front of us and i rested him on it. Just about the time he found it in the scope, he walked away. We had some close calls similar to that one in the next couple of days and saw lots of deer. I wanted to stay the whole hunt but knew with my hunt in 2 weeks and my wifes in 3 that I should get some work done before I don't have a job. So, on Monday afternoon after hunting low for 3 and a half days I decided to move up to a spot that a good friend had told me about. I knew it was a gamble at this point but we were ready. Sometimes things just work out after you have hunted hard. We were driving in to a mountain that we were going to hunt, there was a fairly open ridge in front of us that could be seen pretty well. Something caught my eye high on the ridge to our left. I stopped and looked through the glasses to see deer. I knew that there were at least two bucks and some does. We hurried up the road to where it curved to the right that would put us way to the right of the deer feeding down the ridge. We got our stuff together and headed up the ridge, it was pretty steep but everytime I looked behind me he was right there. I reach about the half way point of the ridge, picked a spot for him to shoot from and waited for them to feed our way. Remember when I said sometimes things just work out? Well it was not more than 20 minutes when I caught movement up and to my left. I pulled the glasses up and they were still feeding our way. I told Braden that they were coming and that the second buck was the 2 point. He got on his rest and waited.. 2 does fed across an opening about 80 yards uphill, then a spike, then the 2 point. I whispered to him to take a deep breath and shoot him. I knew he was shaking like a leaf, but he got it together and took the shot. It was uphill and he may have shot a little high, but he got one lung and somehow came out the spine and he dropped in his tracks. I don't think that he had a tear, just a huge smile, but I dam sure had a tear. I hugged him, told him congrats and nice job and we went to check him out. This was his first deer tag and first buck and I could not be more proud of the job he did.

    Game Cams?

I use the 99 dollar Moultries. They are easy to use, take pretty good pictures, and when they get stolen you are not out as much. As far as locks go. I always remember what my dad always told me.... Locks are only for honest people..... Richard

I have last years Gzone as well. It is kinda dark blue with the loop antenna looking thing on top. I have seen the new version and it is suppose to just have some upgraded software and things. I live in Show Low and it gets great service most places that I travel to. Actually service at my house is not the greatest but my phone gets better service than the others in the house. I am a contractor up here and the fact that this thing gets dropped in the dirt, mud, water and whatever else I can put it through and it still works is great!! Depending on if you are due for an upgrade or not, you can prolly get the upgraded version pretty right. Good luck!!

I agree with you Charlie. I told you about my camera that got jacked. Not even on water and a pretty good hike from the truck. It sucks!! Richard

    Its a Sad Day

I had my camera stolen recently as well. It was almost a mile and a half hike from the truck that was a couple of miles in on a two track road. It was not on water, not on a game trail or anything. It was just a spot that I found and liked what I saw there. They will get them anywhere I guess. Richard

    Oops!

I came across a similar situation several years ago. There was a blind built by a drinker with a sign just like the one you saw. I copied the page from the regs regarding first come first served and slipped it in with his little note. I went to that drinker several times during that season and never saw anybody..... Richard

    My 2 hour pig hunt....

Well guys, here it is, not much to tell. I left Show Low a little... a lot later than I wanted to on Saturday.. By the time I got to where I was going, it was too late to do any good, so that was it for that day. Woke Sunday morning to beautiful weather and hiked to my favorite rock point and set up the tripod. Right off I saw a nice 3x4 muley following a couple of does around. I decided I would watch and wait for a good stalk. They were moving at a pretty good pace, not stopping for anything. While I continued watching them I spotted a nice herd of piggies above them on the side of the mountain. There were about 6 laying under a tree and several more wandering around. I decided to put the stalk on them and hopefully pick the deer up later. The stalk went as planned and I arrowed this nice sow. Here are a couple pics. Richard

    December success!

Man what a blast!! Joe I wouldn't have missed that for the world!! That hunt by itself is a great time, but getting to hang out with your brother and hunt is even better. Not sure about the "unforeseen issues" and the "new waitress friend" is all about, maybe you were on a different trip?? Anyway, the character bucks are the coolest and that one for sure has character!! I almost wish the hunt would have lasted a little longer, but sometimes you gotta take em when you got em. Thanks for allowing me to tag along and CONGRATS on your first coues buck!! Richard

  25. Hey Muskrat. I own a skid steer and a mini-excavator up here in Show Low. I help out in this country when I can. I would be happy to help out in anyway I can anywhere else. If I need to drag my equipment somewhere, I could, or I could offer help as an operator. Let me know how I can help. Thanks, Richard
