Question about Access and Road conditions
AZbowhntr replied to Sdupont's topic in Coues Deer Hunting in Arizona
Any of the border units will have plenty of access for a 2wd. Border Patrol is all over the place so most of the roads are well used. Plus if you hike a bit you will be even better off. -
We decided to give my dog a little bit of a gummy on 4th of July a couple years ago and he ended up crapping on my bed during the night. Apparently he was too high to get up and go outside. Lesson learned.

It could be. That is an awesome buck. But nothing like getting so close to the bucks head with the camera that it literally filled the screen.
-
Congrats on a great buck. There isn't a place like that anywhere.

My brother bought a turkey chick and raised it for Thanksgiving in April and ended up with a 40 lb bird when he had it butchered. Ended up costing him about $80 for everything. And in the end he said he couldn't tell the difference between it and a butterball.

I think he might have meant that he has the colorings of a cow elk and could be shot accidentally.
-
Ernesto, it looks like you will have to just come down and help us on our HAM hunt.

There have only been a couple bucks posted so far. Not nearly what I expected so far. I was down south with my daughter and it was tough with the moon. But they were still moving and up until about 9:30 where we were. But we only saw smaller bucks and nothing that she wanted to shoot that was in range.
-
Great write-up and pictures as always. Congrats on a couple real nice bucks too.

I have subbed out a couple pools in the past and have always used CDC Pools out of Chandler. They have always done a great job for me. They do new and remodels.

Hunting techniques
AZbowhntr replied to Non-Typical Solutions's topic in Coues Deer Hunting in Arizona
I grew up in Idaho hunting the same way. We used to walk along ridges and slowly look over the cuts to see what was below. Lots of offhand shots. We would even throw rocks down into them if they were thick. Mulies would pop out the other side and stop to see what caused the commotion giving us shots. I didn't start glassing until I started hunting coues deer. -
Cool setup. I have the 1000 and love it. I just took the grandsons for a ride a bit ago. Good luck with the sale.

I just saw on Facebook that Jim Shockey has a new book out and will be at Bass Pro Shop in Glendale next Wednesday the 25th from 2pm - 5pm for all those that would like to stand in line to have a book signed. I like the guy and really liked his show when I had the channel but don't think I would be up for standing in line for hours.

Only 1 hit so far. I am sure that is for javelina since we put in for a hunt with leftovers last year. Hopefully another hit will come for turkey.
-
Awesome. You really put that boy to work didn't you. Four miles would be pretty good hike even without any weight added. I look forward to my grandsons getting big enough to take out.
-
Great story. When you sent me the pictures in the text I wasn't sure if you were going to post it on here. I am glad you did. Congrats again to your son and you.
-
Congrats again. That is a cool looking buck. And great story.
-
The smiles say it all. Great buck and story. I enjoyed reading it.
-
Congrats on a great buck. Look forward to a story. What is up with the eyes though?

I went the other day. I didn't see anything that looked like it was on sale that I couldn't resist. Reminded me of a big Dick's Sporting Goods. I wasn't impressed. Although I had two five year old boys with me so that may of had something to do with it.

Some hunts are ruined by killing something. I used to be all about the kill. As I have got older it has changed and I think I enjoy helping or watching someone else as much as hunting for myself. That said, there is nothing like glassing up a trophy and making a great stalk or shot. I think the most successful hunt I have ever had was a late archery bull hunt that I hunted a specific bull for 3 days and finally killed him at 15 yards.
-
My daughter has the same tag. So we will be down there. There are tons of deer and tons of people. Did you hunt the same unit during the archery hunt?
-
I don't think the odds are much different. The unit I put in for late rifle is about 12 points for the bonus pass. It is just getting harder to draw any tag in Arizona now. All the way across the board on all hunts and game. There are late archery hunts if you are set on hunting with really good draw odds. Someone will probably have the exact numbers for you though.

Great machine. I love mine. And that is a great price with all the added items. If I used mine more I think I would install the Fox shocks but it still rides great with the stock.

Great bulls. Looked like a great hunt.
