Wow, that is a blast from the past! I grew up in Idaho and we had the same stove in our basement. That sucker would put out some heat in the winter. GLWS

I have the exact same setup and love it. Been using it for at least 10 years and have never had a problem except the knobs falling off when traveling.
-
Don't they have a young camp for that hunt up on the north edge of the unit? I would look into it and stay there. Tons of help in those camps.

Had a buddy in Idaho get chased by one while out irrigating. The thing chased him down the ditch bank and was actually catching him. He finally stopped, whirled around and whacked it over the head with a shovel. It didn't even kill the thing. But he was able to get away. I have shot one several years ago and it was hands down the smelliest animal I have ever been around.

I have wanted to shoot one for years. But I always saw them while hunting something else and didn't want to mess up a hunt. It is good to know that they can be called in.

Covid, whos had it and how are you recovering?
AZbowhntr replied to CatfishKev's topic in The Campfire
About 1/2 of my family had it over the holidays. Myself, my wife, one daughter and one of her 3 year old twins were positive. I had a slight headache and body aches for a couple days, my wife has been getting dizzy spells since than. Otherwise no other symptoms. I guess we were pretty lucky. -
Just set your alerts on your bank account to send you an email if you get a hit over $100 or whatever. Then you just keep checking your email instead of your portal like me.

Congrats, looks like you needed a few more tags. Those suckers were everywhere.
-
That's too bad. I enjoyed listening to him.
-
Well that was impressive.

Cool placard above the bull. Read that many times.

They have to be thawed out to cross the border. How can they check a frozen hide at the border?
-
It has happened in the past that they have had to award people tags for their screw ups. There is no way they could not give you a tag if you did everything correct and they messed up somehow. Can you imagine the lawsuits?
-
If you have the confirmation numbers and they took your money the best thing that can probably happen is they lose it somehow. Then you would get a tag no matter what.

Interesting rescue clip from this past storm
AZbowhntr replied to Non-Typical Solutions's topic in The Campfire
Yeah, it isn't like everyone in the state didn't know that there was a storm. I don't watch the news and even knew. Ridiculous -
Chef on here would know how they taste. He has shot a couple of them. If they can be made to taste good he has probably done it too.
-
Congrats on a great ram. I am jealous. I want to get one someday soon.

I am sure you will get mixed opinions. I finally bought a Vortex Razor 15-45X60 a couple years ago and carry it quick a bit. I am not worried about the extra weight yet. So that isn't a concern. However the times I have used it I wasn't that impressed compared to my 15x56 SLC's. If I had it to do again I probably wouldn't buy it. But it is definitely nice for the range when shooting.

Close encounter with an F-22 fighter jet
AZbowhntr replied to bigbuckfever's topic in Bowhunting for Coues Deer
I was elk hunting in 23 this last Dec and had a couple come through the canyon we were in. We were actually above them when they came through. I am an ex avionics tech in the AF and still get the goose bumps when I see them out. We see them down in 36b quite a bit also. -
I have the exact rifle. Best shooting out of the box rifle I have ever owned. And a great deal for the package.

Brian, I was with you when the government was on strike. Made me mad that I didn't bring the cape across. How did you guys do this year? Anything big?
-
Good luck. One of these days I am going to hunt them. Keep us updated.
-
Yes, they have to be frozen for 24 hours and then thawed out so they can inspect them. I have had years where they didn't check them at all and didn't care and then other years they searched until they found a tick. I don't care if you spend 10 hours cleaning them they will find one. The worst was a couple years ago when the government was on strike. I spent a couple hours cleaning ticks and finally gave up and said screw it. I got to the border and because of the strike it was border patrol checking them. They would shake the hide and if only a couple ticks fell off they would say ok good to go.
